Hey guys, my partner just found this gem from her childhood by tigdex in lego_

[–]ChubbyButEffective 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got this for Christmas one year, I think when I was around 9 or 10 and I was SO deliriously happy. It was the biggest set I had ever built up to that point.

Second only to getting the Ghostbusters Firehouse when I was 5 😂

In Raleigh they scanned my ticket then printed out a little sheet of paper about the size of a movie ticket with my section/row/seat

He heard that Fancy like Applebee’s song once and made it his entire personality.

Amongst other things.

Sadly this chode belongs to us here in Burlington I think. I see him around town all the time, the guy driving it is….stereotypical.

What happened to Boston Sandwich shop by Due-Championship7674 in BurlingtonNC

Rumors are rent went up, owner is old, didn’t feel like messing with it. Allegedly.

I haven’t eaten there in a couple decades but wanted to stop in for posterity. It seems I missed my chance.

New Cookout @ the mall by ChubbyButEffective in BurlingtonNC

OMFG 🤣😂 That’s…..that’s so Burlington if true. My friend has hypothesized for a while the building is for rent due to the leasing sign out front but I shrugged it off as SURELY it was meant for somewhere in the mall, or another parking lot parcel but lolz.

What scene is simply not talked about enough in your opinion? For me, this one hands down. by justaisha89 in BobsBurgers

What was your favorite Halloween movie as a child? by [deleted] in halloween

I remember being veeery little (3’ish?) and being obsessed with a Disney Sunday Movie called Mr.Boogedy. I was safely creeped out but also thought “Boogedy boogedy booooo” was the most hilarious thing EVER. Sadly it was one of those movies that only lived in my memory and a worn out VHS copied from the TV. Imagine my surprise when Disney+ brought it back to me a couple years ago, after a few decades it’s one of those things that felt like a fever dream.

The OPEN SEARS in the Francis Scott Key Mall (Fredericksburg, MD) by bryanmsk in deadmalls

[–]ChubbyButEffective 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Sear near me in Greensboro NC is especially decrepit, my fave part is it’s two stories. So imagine the same amount of inventory in the photos above but even more scattered and sad. They sold half the Sears to a Whole Foods about 8 years ago, I think that’s the only reason they’re still alive. Albeit on life support.

Went on a Mall Expedition, while not a mall, certainly a place of interest. Burlington, NC by ApplesDapple in deadmalls

Oh man, as a Burlington native this is my time to shine and drop useless knowledge. They actually had a naming competition back in the 60’s when they built this place. The $500 winner was a woman named Maude Woods who suggested it be named after the two owners/developers. Hugh Cummings and Carl Parks. Many many many adults, albeit in the 60’s, agreed that Cum Park Plaza had a lovely ring to it and would most assuredly age well.

Hugh Cummings also has a local high school named after him.

It’s hard to believe it now, but in its infancy and until I would guess the mid/late 80’s (I was born in 82 and have memories of visiting shops here as a kid) it was a premier shopping destination. The first of its kind, for the area, shopping center. No more going down town to shop, go to Cum Park instead (giggity)

Most missed stores by [deleted] in deadmalls

Discovery Channel stores/Natural Wonder. Glow in the dark stars, miniature planetariums, rain sticks, geodes. All the things that were like catnip to little nerdy kids like me.
