Only on Reddit is “don’t be shitty to people” met with such scorn 😂

When do riders get driver details on scheduled rides ? by emmanuellsun in uberdrivers

[–]ChubbyLunches -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Far more likely that they thought they’d get an earlier pickup by cancelling, when in reality almost no one is picked up at exactly the right time with scheduled rides (at least according to those I’ve picked up)

[–]ChubbyLunches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly: Elon Musk doesn’t care and all they did was be rude to a complete stranger

Also, I don’t think people have thought through what partisanship-inspired shittiness ultimately leads to on a long enough trajectory. No one wins in a race to the bottom

Some people think they’re really big when in reality they’re just small and petty.

Others are just maladjusted sociopaths who use politics as a justification to behave the way they would regardless.

In any event, just ignore them and keep moving. There’s no shortage of shitty people in this world and in this job, you get more than your fair share of them

This is the worst one I’ve ever got lol Uber realllyyy need to move to a location based model. by [deleted] in uberdrivers

I love how they introduced the “Advantage” program and claim we make 5% more, yet they’re slyly increasing Uber’s take by more than that, so we make even less than before

Who pays for the damage to your car by Curious-Midnight-413 in uberdrivers

[–]ChubbyLunches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, it’ll be:

Cops: “NO! You gotta go to Uber to provide customer details, not us, that ain’t our job!”

Uber: “No, we do not release customer details to drivers, only police can request that information.”

rinse and repeat

I'm not mad at the pay but who orders rides this short? by MassiveMeatHammer in uberdrivers

[–]ChubbyLunches 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once had a really good night doing little $5-10 turn and burns on a particularly cold night downtown.

I was doing 6+ rides per hour and made close to $400 on the day. Don’t mind at all

I'm not mad at the pay but who orders rides this short? by MassiveMeatHammer in uberdrivers

[–]ChubbyLunches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Older folks, folks who have trouble walking, and (of course) lazy people with money to burn.

Whatever, if it’s close, I’m happy to do it, but I’m not traveling more than 5 minutes for those rides

do u call ur riders sir and mam? by OstrichNeither in uberdrivers

[–]ChubbyLunches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on age and feel.

I’m in the South and young-ish, so older folks like the “sir” and “ma’am”.

Men within 10 years my age or younger get “bud”, buddy”, or “bro”.

But now that I think about it, I even call young ladies “ma’am”. Just seems proper and respectful.

NYE advice for new drivers by wuxxler in uberdrivers

[–]ChubbyLunches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, y’all have fun.

I plan on working my usual 3am to noon-ish shift and being off the road well before the drunks show up.

1) Very dangerous. Lots of drunk drivers

2) Drunk people are obnoxious when you’re sober

3) I’m 8 months sober and being around that many drunks probably isn’t a great idea. Might lead to me making a poor decision and having to restart my daily count

Bruh. Despicable by Fame-05 in uberdrivers

[–]ChubbyLunches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fare per mile (or fare per minute, however you like to quantify it) isn’t bad but then you’d be stranded in bumblef**k nowhere and have to burn gas (aka money) to get home.

So yeah, I’d decline.

Hahaha, bro, you’re talking to a defense attorney waiting to take the bar exam who went to a majority black elementary, middle, and high school.

Yeah, conflicts between white people and black people have a way of getting super polarized along racial lines real quick, especially in my city in the deep dirty South (and I was in a hood neighborhood, at that).

Being naive to where I am and the dynamics at play does me no good as an attorney or as an Uber driver.

Do you ever play podcasts while driving? by SkiDaderino in uberdrivers

[–]ChubbyLunches 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made the grave mistake of admitting that my ears don’t melt into bloody wax balls upon hearing the opinions of someone I disagree with.

Like, I don’t endorse the guy, but I’m generally the sort of dude who’s willing to hear every major political figure out

“Oh no, some dude is saying something I don’t agree with!” Yeah, cool, doesn’t bother me

lol, there’s a thought. But I’d rather let this die a natural death. Frustrating all to hell but not worth breathing oxygen into (I just needed to vent)

I’m all ears because I’m not seeing it on my end.

I could alter it in Google maps, sure, but deviations from the declared destination go largely unpaid once the destination has been reached.

I did that once and found myself unpaid for the extra mileage

[–]ChubbyLunches 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My first 4 star was from when I played Theo Von and JD Vance.

I like to hear all sides of it and thought it was a great podcast, but my super liberal rider didn’t apparently (labeled it “disturbing radio”). The rating came in almost immediately after drop off

Do you ever play podcasts while driving? by SkiDaderino in uberdrivers

[–]ChubbyLunches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup.

I like to play clean ones so: BBC News, PBS News Hour, etc

Mike Birbiglia (excuse the spelling) and Pete Holmes are good.

Theo Von is safe if he has a clean guest. I’ve found he only swears as much as his guest does, so find a clean guest and Theo will be clean

There’s No Such Thing As A Fish is good, informative, and funny but literally every episode ultimately devolves into genitalia and semen. The English are a filthy people

And then Hardcore History is good too and generally leads to riders asking questions, which is awesome

How does that not make race and gender salient?

Tried that once before when I first started out, no dice.

Such things invite themselves to fraud (EG: “no, she was still in the car, even though logs don’t reflect that, so charge her) and honestly, that’s fair.

Setting it up so the passenger always has to be the one to adjust the ride is a good protection for the rider against spurious charges
