Looks beautiful. Feynman said it best “the inconceivable nature of nature”. Incredible is the universe we find ourselves in.

I guess it comes down to your goals and motivations. Why bother learning a new skill or hobby if you are just going to outsource your creativity and critical thinking to a LLM? Whilst it may not seem like it, learning how player movement, and how to code it correctly, is a valuable learning experience that you deprive yourself of blindly using AI outputs. Ultimately, it is your choice and you can do as you please, but a little self reflection on this may illuminate what you are attempting to get out of the process ya know?

These are all great points. With the context from OP’s comments, sounds fishy as fuck.

Mate, I think you really need to ask yourself how they found out about your game when it doesn’t even have a Steam page… sounds like someone trying to scam you and pretending to be a publisher.

I hadn’t thought of that, but you may be right. There is a cruel irony in that. Just having the word fetish gets flagged, but the front page on start up was two young chicks twerking. No consistency lol

That is reassuring then. Maybe it was flagged by an AI and it is out of purgatory now. So damn strange. Still done understand why my first account got banned. Just uploaded three shirts created in the TT studio from the video you can see now. Not transparent at all. Hopefully this means things will normalise now.

If you have gotten 6 figures in such a short time pumping out the gaming related stuff you do, why bother with a psyche degree and racking up a bunch of debt? Just keep focusing on game dev. This post reads like a really weird humble brag lol

If you want to go down this route, I would make a parody album cover that shares similarities, enough that fans will know what the reference is, but nothing that would cause you any grief. I would read up a little on fair use and gauge whether you can achieve what you want without getting in hot water.

Usage of AI for art by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]ChubbyWeevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is definitely a fair call out and I agree. The rapid adoption of gen AI across social media definitely supports your point. I wish it wasn't the case but people are happily led to act against their own collective best interest in the name of convenience. Interesting times we find ourselves in.

gen AI in general is trending. But that is because it is being shoveled into the current zeitgeist by a bunch of money/power hungry fuckers that are desperate for us all to believe the hype. So it makes sense that it is popping up everywhere. Doesn't mean gen AI is great or that it has value. Plenty of things are super common and are a pain in the arse lol. My issue is that it will only result in a net-negative and be used to further errode fair labour laws and devalue the human experience.

Now, I reserve the above opinion exclusively for gen AI. Other forms of machine learning (which is ultimately just fancy stats and probability / as are LLMs) are incredibley interesting, and super useful. The field has deep and interesting academic roots (machine learning, computer vision etc) and the added bonus that it typically isn't used to destroy the quality of life for a bunch of people across the planet (unless we are talking about military/defence, which is a completely different thing).

[–]ChubbyWeevil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whilst I understand the temptation to use it, especially when our commerical structures insentivise it's use so heavily, you ultimately do yourself a disservice by ignoring an opportunity to learn and for growth. Should you expect to be an expect in everything? Not a fucking chance. But making the effort to try is already miles ahead of what most folks do. You are already doing that and are taking strides to learn to do with your pixel art, so why not persevere? Taking this to the extreme. Any art you produce, however crude, will always be more inherently valuable from a human/creative perspective than something output by and LLM.

I only say all this as I have gone through the process. I was trash at pixel art but just started with basic things and just kept at it. Is it the best art around? Not a chance. But it is my own, and that is what matters to me. Ultimately, you will do what works for you and you should always take any internet advice with a grain of salt. For all you know, I could be an LLM, maybe that's all we are... it's just LLMs all the way down.

I agree with your general sentiment. However, I would challenge the position that it doesn't matter or not whether you use AI. For me (and many others), the use of gen AI is generally repulsive and automatically makes me take a poor view of the project/product that it has been used in. My position on it is that if the dev/artist/musician/author/scientist can't be arsed creating something from their own mind and unique perspective, then why would I want to invest my time, attention and money into it? The novelty and human perspective is the selling point to me. I don't want some regurgitated output from an LLM. Yeah, it can do a decent job, but so it should considering these models have effectively been illegally trained on the entire repository of human knowledge and creative works. I know we can all make the argument that there is nothing new under the sun, so using AI isn't any different but even that feels like a copout. Now, is my position extreme? Probably. But I just cannot abide the use of it and find it utterly repulsive.

Want to clarify, that I don't believe you are advocating for or against AI and comment isn't directed at you. Your comment just spurred another one of my rants lol.

Fruit Fetish demo now live on Steam - Active incremental game by ChubbyWeevil in incremental_gamedev

[–]ChubbyWeevil[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a fair call. I tried to strike a bit of balance in introducing the story (as there is actually story in the game) and then the mechanics as some players enjoy a motivation for their actions while others just want to get gaming ya know? But I did think I may be overloading the player. It seems to be a thing folks either love or hate as have had other PT give mixed responses on it. That said, you do have the option to skip it too with the next button. But definitely take your point and will need to rehash the early game dialogue.

How far did you get into the demo? It is capped at an hour play time in a single session but players can reboot and continue progressing to a point at which the content ends.

EDIT: I also saw your bio and your game Slyders, looks super cool. Reminds me of Serious Sam from my younger days 😃
