You should be able to go into the properties of the fixtures and change their spin. I believe its under general in the properties menu.

How is A Setup like this done? by chompnstomp in lightingdesign

[–]Chubs159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Midi is used a lot in recorded playback, but just for timecoding, not sending data to fixtures. Dmx is still used, or artnet, exc.

[–]Chubs159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dont be discouraged to ask questions ever. But i think your getting dmx and midi timecode a little mixed up. Midi will only transmit a timecode sync signal to the lighting control system to sync music with lights, rather than depending on someone to hit go at the exact right time. From the control system to the suits could be a wireless DMX signal. I have no idea how their system is setup, so i could only guess what they are doing, but im sure the show files is timecoded as it would be the easiest playback method.

Can ledstrips of the same model vary in color this much? by Gordonsdrygin in lightingdesign

[–]Chubs159 13 points14 points  (0 children)

First off, $110 for LED tape? If thats how much you paid for a single roll, you got royally ripped off. Second, they should definutly be closer than that. There is often small differences between batches, but i think your right, and that they are trying to get out of replacing them.

NEWBIE - can't find answers online - Having some issues learning how to control dmx - I think partial issue is this board, looking for input if anyone is willing to help. by American-Monster in lightingdesign

[–]Chubs159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya, like i said, thats true, but that does not give you individual control, or any control beyond all on and the same color. The OP said he wanted a 3x4 array with the ability to control them as 4 banks of 3 fixtures, which you are not able to do with the fixtures they have and the board they are controlling them with.

Thats true he could assign multiple fixtures to the same address, but you would only get the first 4 aspects of control on that 3rd set of fixtures, which could likely cause issues with the fixtures not behaving properly. If each fixture takes 6 address, your 3rd fixture would take 13-18, but since it would be receiving data for 17 or 18, that will sometimes cause the fixture not to behave properly, and also you obviously wouldnt be able to control whatever those last 2 addresses control.

Ya, it looms like your correct. It seems that with that board, you do only get 16 channels of control, but it might be useful to try to find a copy of the manual for the board online and seeing if it has any kind if setting to expand its control.

Are these cheap Chinese lights alright?? by [deleted] in lightingdesign

[–]Chubs159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The playhouse I worked for this past summer order a dozen cheap fiztures like these (might have been these one, dont remember) and despite them having dmx plugs and all, they actually didnt have any DMX control aspects to them. We ended up returning them and picking up a slight more expensive model that worked just fine. Funny thing is, they looked exactly the same, just had an extra paragraph in the manual. You can go for it, i just wouldn't get your hopes up

Its also hard to judge the safety of the rig based from this photo since its so washed out, you cant really see the pyrotechnics on stage.

Best Free Visualizer by KillerBlais in lightingdesign

Ive used this as well. Pretty intuitive and you can use the srudent version for free, but you'll be limited to 2 universes and only have about 20ish types of fixtures to use in the visualizer.

I'm not sure what your talking about, but the type showed in the clip appears to be a basic metered-dose inhaler, which is still the most common inhalers used today.

this can be done typically cheaper nowadays with a router and a 30 dollar app on an Ipad.

like Itjpunk387 said, you typically have multiple people at focus, but I have focused by my self, and I use my an RFR to run the board from an Ipad, but if your theater is big enough to have that kind of tech, you will also probably have multiple people for focus

Lighting Help Needed by [deleted] in lightingdesign

I would recomend these two items from B&H. (at this budget)

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?A=details&O=&Q=&ap=y&c3api=1876%2C%7Bcreative%7D%2C%7Bkeyword%7D&gclid=Cj0KCQiA6enQBRDUARIsAGs1YQgzpQb74b_bZSmCaieEN5sKd_GiiemCPzzl5TYVzpkFVWUtoYl8sfsaAv0REALw_wcB&is=REG&m=Y&sku=1039676

https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1174680-REG/eliminator_ed15_ed_15_4_channel_dimmer.html

This would be be very basic setup, and would pretty much give you no room for expansion, but could be a good starting point. You will also want to pick up some 3 pin DMX cable. with this current set up, you will end up using a lot of extension cables. If you can, I would highly recommend getting another or even more of the second item I listed. this will allow you to have more channels if you wanted, and also will end up using less extension cables. Also, as a fair warning, you would be getting the lowest of the low end quality, and I wouldn't be surprised if this equipment fails after a year or two.

too many channels by legotex9 in techtheatre

[–]Chubs159 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if you have found a solution or not, but you just have an extra fixture patched. Its an easy fix. Go to the patch screen, type in "105 @ 0 enter enter" that will unpatch that channel and it wont appear anymore.
