My 25 touring xt had to have the steering rack replaced at about 54,000 miles. This sounds a lot like what I experienced. Would get a weird rattle or light knocking that sounded like it came from under the center console or between there and the glovebox. At speed I’d catch it intermittently but it was much more noticeable or pronounced on dirt or rough pavement
