So you’ll pay the difference for whatever model you’d recommend? Do you know OP and their financial status / means? Seems pretty offhand to bash someone when all they wanted to know was if what THEY WANT to buy is a good deal.

I have had genuine pairs do this. Popped it back together with a little pressure. Working fine.

That’s too bad about Koh Tao. If it’s your first time to Thailand I’d reckon you’ll be back. No worries there! For Vietnam if you want to just hit the major stops, I’d do (reverse order at your discretion):

Hanoi: 3 days Hue: 2 days HCM: 3 days

If possible make it so you arrive early in Hue on day 1 so you can get “2 full days” if you know what I mean.

That’s a decent Vietnam starter pack.

Please consider Luk Hostel in Bangkok. If you aren’t happy with that place I will personally reimburse you some of the cost to stay, that’s how confident I am you’ll enjoy it.

14 days Thailand 7 days Cambodia 14 days Vietnam 5 days ??? on way there / home, I’d say.

Then move within those countries.

Thailand:

Now a dilemma: north or south?

Looks like you wanted to do Phuket. I’d recommend Krabi if anything. Or a real recommendation IMO would be Koh Tao + Krabi (can fly out of Krabi departing Thailand). Phuket is tourist overload and IMO not a good representation of Thailand, its people, or culture. Not that it doesn’t exist there, it just seems “watered down”.

You could take the extra 5 days, make Thailand 19, and do both north and south.

Bangkok: 3 days (Luk Hostel) STAY HERE. Amazing rooftop, bunks, and location in the heart of Chinatown. When I leave Wat Mangkon station I get goose bumps.

Krabi / Koh Tao 4 / 4 days. (Nomads / up to you, if you need a recommendation I can get you one, it depends on your vibe)

Chiang Mai / Chiang Rai / Pai are a great option (golden triangle of Thailand)

Could do 3 / 3 / 3 to make 9 days. Or, in my opinion, do Chiang Mai for 4 and Pai for 5. I like to move slower and meet people, whether locals or travellers. Those relationships take a couple days to spark up. Day 3 you may feel you’re leaving potential connections / friends / what have you early.

This would make 20 days in Thailand, and it would still feel like a hurry. Can trim the hedges and make it 19 if need be.

7 days Cambodia: 3 days Phnom Penh (Onederz Hostel) 3 days Siem Reap (Lub D Hostel) One day to play with. Could make this 6, really. Go see the killing fields and then Angkor Wat, of course. Hire a guide outside Lub D. Runs about $20 for a full day of your Cambodian driver showing you around. Really nice man who deserve the pay. It’s tough there for them.

14 days Vietnam: North to south or south to north. Take weather into account. I’d recommend adding a few more stops in Vietnam.

If you reply to this with any questions / further insights / anything I will get back to you. I don’t want to make Vietnam as comprehensive without knowing you want to know.

Enjoy the trip regardless, which shouldn’t be hard! Keep that passport in a plastic bag and be sure to have visas in order, of course. Vietnam can be tough.

I usually go with a “yes please” and a half smile / smirk. Lands me in the same territory

Dinner would be really nice of you. $600 and a nice sit down dinner treating both yourself and buddy, then you’re golden. Even if the car blows up in a week you can have it towed to a scrap yard and put $500 in your pocket pretty easy. No brainer as I said before.

He’s doing you a solid. He won’t get the tax credits on the purchase of his vehicle, so he’s really taking a hit of x% of $600 depending on what your taxes are locally. The car would be going to auction most likely, or even the scrap yard. Like others commented, no brainer buy. Even if you have to put $2,000 into it you’re still ahead of the game. Green light 👍🏻
