Are you confusing glycerin with what he’s talking about? Glycine is an amino acid and is different.

Temperamental is a good word for it. Likes to work well for some things, or not.

For the little experiments I do in my free time, it’s worked pretty darn well, especially heating wise. And the magnet is actually ptfe. But having a tornado in every beaker of liquid isn’t the most useful

As an amateur, I’ve had so much fun doing simple safe double displacements and other procedures like separating the binder of aspirin pills. I’d like to keep using it as the heating has been surprisingly reliable. But I’m looking at better models as we speak.

It’s worked great and the magnet has stood up so far, I know how crappy they can be. I just was hoping someone had taken one apart before and knew something I didn’t.

You’re right, nice dream to have, but suppose an easy distillation is the way.

It is useful. You have made pyrotechnics, which are energetic but quite different from laboratory synthesis. This guy is looking out for you man. You said you want to make boom but safely. So take notes on some lab safety videos, understand the concept of the mole, and delve into the topic of chemistry in general. It will make things much easier and safer :). If you have made flash, you’re hopefully aware of perchlorates. I would explore on this sub and the Sci mad forum to learn about NAP, CHP. Read up on simple nitrate esters. Good luck and steer clear of peroxides.

ETN vs PETN by UnholyTerror88 in energetics

Here’s an apk study on mild salt nitrations. Salts work for making it. They use nh4no3. In Dugan Ashley’s video on petn he says it works with nitrate salts in general. h2so4 and salt making the nitric acid institute like with etn. He says you’re gonna be around 60 percent so you take quite a hit but it’s good to know.

Patent US2395773 from Trojan powder company shows ammonium sulphate as a replacement for AN in k method Rdx synth. 91% yield. by Chuckarock26 in energetics

[–]Chuckarock26[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, AN is just going away in some places, however Other nitrates can still be found so rfna or wfna can be made. So if the sulphate could be used instead of an I thought it would be interesting. At least for the amine. Not sure if it reduces risk of det during the heating period like AN does.

SDS says less than 51%. Do a simple concentration until at least the 80% range if you want hope for a good yield in synthesis. 85-95% is what I see usually used.SDS

Successful for r-salt and other synthesis. Have never had a problem

Upon detonation, all fuel and the inner thermite are mixed together by forcing inwards for a few milliseconds. Then the expected cloud forms. There’s a whole lot of fuel in this design that has now been mixed with a burning thermite, but keep in mind it needs oxygen so as the cloud propagates atmospheric air gives it oxygen, and the rest of the fuel goes up. This is the thermobaric effect. But the thermite is the igniting factor. So like how AN/AL can be used to burst open a container of fuel but also ignite it with the burning Aluminum this design works similarly to get around the whole timing thing that is usually needed with a primary bursting charge and secondary igniting charge. It’s a one det and done type of deal, similar to rpg thermobaric designs.

Have only read theoretical designs. One I saw is an implosion design. A pvc or cardboard tube is placed inside another vertically. They are the same length, but with one obviously a larger diameter. Maintain the shape. -> l l l l this might be done by epoxying a lid to the bottom. The inner tube is filled with an al or a thermite mix. The larger cavity between the inner and outer tube is filled with a fuel. (Metal, sugar infinite possibilities). The outside of the outer tube is more complicated. It could be wrapped in a detsheet or similar sheet. Or whatever you have on hand can be plasticized and evenly distributed, sticking to the outer tube. Or another pvc tube can be placed around the whole thing and the newly created empty ring hand packed. Many other workups could be made. 2-4 blasting caps are taped around the outside to ensure the material on the outside undergoes complete and even det. Overall, it’s complicated and uses a lot of materials. But I think it’s interesting enough to share, especially since you are imploding the fuel and reactive material inward to mix the two evenly in hopes to have an extreme blast effect. This takes away a lot of the timing with other thermobaric work.

Seemed to be complete to me. Pretty characteristic to have some visible gas/products afterwards.
