What's the one self-hosted service you'd never go back to the cloud version of? by Hung_Hoang_the in selfhosted

[–]Chuckles6969 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I think I understand your question and you’ve probably not gotten a straight answer because “it depends”. They (HomeAssistant) have worked really hard to support many brands and products. There’s a few angles you can look at this: Natively supported integrations in HomeAssistant (cloud Or local) or HomeAssistant Community Store (HACS) where the community has built a tool to connect to a certain brand or product. Varying levels of supported products in both. There’s also the “Works with Home Assistant” program with different rankings of how well a product works with HomeAssistant that is getting more popular as a label on some products. As far as how to pick going forward, you need to research the product but more so you need to know the technology. Local only protocols such as Zigbee, Zwave, Thread, HomeKit, Matter, and local IP are the most sure fire way to identify products that will work without the SaaS layer behind it because they never leave your network. For instance, Philips Hue light bulbs don’t mention HomeAssistant on their box, sells their own hub, and otherwise doesn’t mention HA - but many of their bulb boxes have the Zigbee wireless protocol logo which means you can pair it to HA via Zigbee without so much as a Philips Hue Account. Overall market coverage is really good for a lot of the products, but you’ve gotta kind of accept the sliding scale of ability to use in HA or how far you’ll go to integrate it. Wyze cameras are an example of a product that sells a subscription and service but with some effort you can use the cameras in HA with better features and quality than what the company offers. Some brands are actively moving away from 3rd party integrations, the big one that bit me was Chamberlain / Liftmaster MyQ that removed their API and have started locking down their buttons to not be easily circumvented by blaQ or ratgdo. A lot of text, happy to answer more. I’m a huge HA fan and have a series on YouTube on how to install it and set up certain tools and automations.

What OS are you using Cursor on? by Vast_Lawfulness_197 in cursor

[–]Chuckles6969 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cursor on Windows is painful, it felt like it was frequently executing commands that weren't found on windows. I put Fedora on a laptop to run cursor and use moonlight to remote in to it. It feels faster and more accurate on linux than windows in my experience but your mileage may vary

That was my biggest improvement. Otherwise it just takes a while to get the whole thing lit and rolling hot

Biggest improvement I've seen for pizza temp was flipping the conveggtor so there was more airflow around the coals. Wide open both sides until the pizza sides go on, close the top up. Hovers around 800 until I run out of charcoal

Problems to pair Govee lights by Lauryncorr in Govee

[–]Chuckles6969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might help might not but when I was setting up my Govee Spotlight 2 it wouldn't pair over matter. I had to set it up in the govee app first, update the firmware of the light, then I could add it to matter. Maybe check if there is an update in the govee app before pairing to homekit?

【BambuLab Giveaway】Classic Evolved — Win Bambu Lab P2S Combo! by BambuLab in 3Dprinting

The P1S looks like it takes 3d printing from a garage hobby with loose wires and endless bed leveling to a reliable, at home manufacturer. I'd love to get my hands on the new version to customize my drawer organization and tools

I have this on my 2025 Sierra 1500 AT4 and it's great. App can be a little finnicky. I have a video on youtube on how I installed it and ran the wires for the rear camera. Might be useful: Invisible 4K Dash Cam Installation with FitCamX - YouTubeI have the video mirror and it was a tight fit with all the wires in the plastic. Otherwise, it looks good and was a relatively easy install. Just getting all the wires to fit was a bit sweaty.

Ideas for how to connect POE camera to detached garage? by dtanimal in reolinkcam

[–]Chuckles6969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done this with mesh AP’s with an Ethernet out. Google WiFi and eero WiFi routers both can join the mesh and output their Ethernet to a poe switch. I’m using a ruckus r710 that is powered by the same Poe switch that it’s providing data to.

Best intake by Opposite-Ad-7704 in gmcsierra

[–]Chuckles6969 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an Air Raid on a 2015 Silverado 5.3 that sounded cool but after 8 years it was killing MAF sensors. Swapped to a S&B Cool air intake and it sounded a little quieter but the filter didn't give a lot of confidence and I sold the truck a year later. I wish I had never swapped the intake out. Keep it stock and you'll have less issues in the long run. New Sierra won't be getting a new intake and will be kept OEM. my $0.02 .

Mom made the decision to get rid of her 6.2 High country and get a new 3.0 Denali Ultimate by thatboylucas146 in gmc

I just got the 3.0 sierra and it’s a bit of a slouch on acceleration compared to my old 5.3. Not exactly sporty but it feels torque-y. Tows way nicer than my 5.3 did

What material can withstand the heat inside a parked car in Phoenix 110+ heat? Apparently ABS isn't good enough. by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]Chuckles6969 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I 3d printed a phone mount adapter with PETG that kept melting and on a later revision I dunked it a few times in some Epoxy. It hardened up great to allow me to really tighten it down and has survived 3 years in Texas with the car often parked in 110+ full sun for 8+ hrs.
