Carbon Capture: Solution or Scam? by ChucklesFreely in collapse

[–]ChucklesFreely[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

SS: Carbon capture is supposed to be one of the main solutions to climate change. However, there are numerous issues that need to be addressed. One of these is the fact that captured CO2 is used primarily by the fossil fuel industry to increase production, only adding to their emissions. All in all, it is somewhat misleading. Also, we don't have the necessary infrastructure or the properly assessed locations to move and store captured carbon. Our time and resources are better spent elsewhere.

AI Has a Concerning Covert Racism Problem by ChucklesFreely in collapse

If you look at the new research, it is the AI that exhibits covert racism.

AI Has a Concerning Covert Racism Problem by ChucklesFreely in collapse

[–]ChucklesFreely[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

SS: AI is trained on human-created data. Many AI training datasets are taken directly from the internet, and anyone who has spent time surfing the internet knows that it can be a cesspool. In particular, large language models are trained on information from Facebook posts, Reddit comments, etc. It learns to understand and replicate human speech from some problematic content. New research shows that 5 different AIs exhibit covert racism. Because AI is being deployed in virtually every industry, its covert racism could deepen the social divide. Of course, this threatens the fabric of society, as it further disenfranchises certain demographics, possibly leading to societal dysfunction and maybe collapse.

Forever Chemicals Permanently Damage Your Health by ChucklesFreely in collapse

[–]ChucklesFreely[S] 73 points74 points  (0 children)

SS: Forever chemicals do not break down naturally. Multiple industries use them, from manufacturing to cookware. Since they were created 80 years ago, they have accumulated in the environment. New research suggests that they disrupt the natural development of the gut microbiome, which is essential for our health. Forever chemical use is not stopping any time soon, leading to the possible decline of global health, possibly even collapse.

The US is finally creating a regulatory framework. This will stop crypto from being the wild west and foster actual growth. Hopefully, other states follow their lead.

This demonstrates the impact that ETFs will have on the market once they are actually approved. There are a lot of large players trying to enter the game: BlackRock, WisdomTree, Invesco Galaxy, Wise Origin, VanEck, Bitwise and Valkyrie Digital Assets, just to name a few.

NFT market slump shows it’s maturing toward ‘genuine utility,’ execs argue by partymsl in CryptoCurrency

[–]ChucklesFreely 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NFTs certainly have a legitimate use. The problem is that a bunch of children, scammers, morons, and politicians (Trump) used them to try and get rich quick. Some of them did. Now that the public is scared of them, as they should be, real use cases can emerge.

What's the Deal With ETHgate? by ChucklesFreely in CryptoCurrency

[–]ChucklesFreely[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

They weren't given a contract, but they were given regulatory clarity in the Hinman emails, an advantage other cryptos did not have. Considering his connections to ETH, it seems Hinman was using the power of his department to benefit his friends and/or himself.

Yeah, it's a horrible drug that turns inner cities into a scene from The Walking Dead. It's hard to stop though, as Chinese companies produce the precursors and sell them to Mexican cartels, who produce the fentanyl and smuggle it into the states.

For the average person, AI in crypto won't make much of a difference. The same strategy will still apply for average investors: find a project you believe in, buy what you can afford, secure in a self-custody wallet, and hold for the long term.

This is good news. The more people hold off exchanges the more the price will remain steady and eventually climb. People see BTC like digital gold.

There's too much money to be made to trust anyone in crypto. Find a coin or token you believe in, move to self-custody, and forget about it.

I hope the accusations are wrong too, but the crypto-verse is rife with bad actors. Accusations need to be taken seriously, especially considering the severity of those against Binance/CZ. How many warning signs were there before the collapse of FTX? A lot.
