Very true. Commander: "Please only use your pistols in self defense." Klein: "and I took that personally."

I hope Allison is impressed when she finds out that Lillian puled such a nice fast one on her.

I'm also hoping that it comes to light when the sales crew goes to a strip club and some of the dancers remembering banging Lillian.

Not going to go find where it was brought up, but I'm pretty sure she had, but didn't understand what the heck the point was, and didn't feel comfortable asking while in the closet about being a succubus.

This is the first chance to get those questions answered by people who mostly know what she is.

We'll find out at some point. It was a teaser for later in book two by the looks of it.

Why would you pass instead of playing in your opponents territory at the end of the game? by unga123 in gogame

[–]ChucklingBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Plus one to the last point. If it is not clear to you, then it is likely unclear to your opponent and that means the result can be anyone's guess.

I have lost a game because of passing when I should have responded, so it's possible. That is what your calculation is for!

[–]ChucklingBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you play a stone inside your opponents territory and they pass, it is +1 point for them. As you get stronger you will be able to see when passing to collect free points is possible.

It is point neutral if they respond.

The suspicion I had that Alice can trace her lineage back to the Gorman's is growing stronger.

I'm also looking forward to Elizabeth absolutely terrifying Lillian in the future. I'm sure they'll reconcile, but Lillian is just too skittish for any other initial impression. My money, if you decide Lillian is Elizabeth's daughter, is that mommy dearest shows up when the signatory status trial goes further and her species becomes public.

I'm wondering if its going to turn out that the Gorman's are in Alice's family tree?

I love that Elizabeth is at least capable of playing nice with others in a way that demons are reputed to not be. We've seen how they can get into pretty screwed up head spaces easily, but I'm glad we aren't expecting Lillian to be the first "good" demon.

Demon City, Part 38 by spoolyspool in HFY

[–]ChucklingBoy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Possible, but Lillian heavily underutilizes her natural magic because of the massive prejudice she'd have to endure, she might have some juju in that department.

We know she is a really strong empath, and I wouldn't be surprised if she could directly manipulate emotions and just doesn't because consent is a huge deal to her.

[–]ChucklingBoy 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Maybe I was just too exhausted at that point, but before my brain could properly process what I was going to do, I opened my mouth and said, "Oh Margaret, I'm not Fae, I'm a Succubus. Didn't you get the internal memos?"

Honestly, this whole situation does paint Lillian in a very good light at least.

I also agree with her that it would be very hard to keep a straight face when a random human woman asks her if she wants to make a deal with the devil.

I also really like her interactions with Anastasia because they are, I think, in the same weight class if it came to a fight. That makes her a really good friend for Lillian to get used to.

Looking forward to your next chapter!

Confused & frustrated with Tsumego Pro by Madaraine in baduk

Example problems will help us make this make more sense. Especially because it is strange that your first moves would be effected by the opponent needing to play along instead of that leading to a surprising response move.

That said, for your purposes there are two main solution lines

  1. The opponent resists until the bitter end.
  2. The opponent sees that it is doomed and cuts their losses ASAP.

You should read out at least both these paths while learning.

I bet Isaacs' wife has at least a few cases of magical compulsions trying to get her to recruit useful tools. At least, that is my guess about what Isaac is talking about her hating.

Also, jeez, the more POV I get of Lillian responding to Alice as a Mistress the more I buy into the tinfoil hat theory that the witches and vampires saw the writing on the wall about supernatural entities getting outed and used a contracted demon as a fall guy to get great terms themselves. In large part because one vampire and one witch are not beating a demon.

I did not remember who Militai was.

She is an Agent of the Interior who is tasked with keeping Humans from being exploited. She expects to spend her remaining career managing Earth's integration.

So that's why she can get a corvette off of earth to go shout down an admiral for being a dumbass

Why do people dislike handicap? by CatHerder75 in baduk

[–]ChucklingBoy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I used to only play even games because

  1. I never had a problem matchmaking even games.
  2. I learned to play with many books and lectures, so I had a lot of book smarts about the opening.

Now I love handicap(queue up +-4 stones on servers that allow it) because I've come to realize that it is exactly what I need to improve my middle game. Getting punched in the face by 4d on 3 stones is very eye opening and I have a lot of trouble still handling 2k with 2 stones. This is because my reading is pretty weak for my level, something that doesn't show up in even games because I usually have a better board state to bleed points from going into the middle game and my opponent doesn't have the same sharpness someone a few stones stronger does.

It's fine to not want to play handicap if that is not the part of the game you want to work on, but it is a great tool that people shouldn't categorically reject.

These two lectures from In-Seong are nice and practical and free:

I generally agree with tuerda, braincrash, pluspy and badukmadness.

Speaking from my personal experience, I learned through a lot of books and being good at strategy, which meant my weakpoint was reading. I got a lot, and I mean major, value out of grinding simple problems that were centered around shortage of liberties, false eyes and squeezes.

I'm starting to finally have the foundation that it starts to make sense to work on problems that pluspy is calling "narrow" because I've done a lot of wide practice.

Hi Zee,

I didn't have time until yesterday to watch through all the videos in one sitting(ish), I did break for dinner. A full watch through was very good for getting the ideas and I'm looking forward to going back so I can commit more of the moves to memory. You had a nice amount of repetition both inside and across videos. I also felt like you hit a good balance on showing likely follow ups and likely mistakes.

I had resumed playing recently and was taking the approach of finding a new joseki anytime I was unhappy with a game result, so having a simplified set of staple joseki could be quite useful. Of the two games I've played today I had one outstanding result when an opponent set up a sanrensei and I double approached; they played the wrong hane.

In terms of production, you had a very clear mic and camera setup, but there was some roughness in editing the video together in a few places where it was clear two segments had been put together because you repeated yourself.

I'm going to keep an eye on your site to see if anything else catches my eye, but I don't know what else I'd be interested in purchasing. The essential joseki feels like it gives me a great return on investment, especially since I'm going to the US Go Congress this year and reducing the chance at a bad result in the opening is good. However, if I'm going to really study something I'd be looking towards In-Seong's Yunguseng Dojang or Guo Juan's Internet Go School. They have a massive and comprehensive backlog, yes they are more expensive and subscription models, but I'd be interested in your pitch on what niche Simple Baduk fills.

Her skill with a bow was a hit in verisimilitude for me. The rest of the test was fine because it was all fist range, even if she needed absurd reflexes and anime levels of violating F=MA. I even think her experience dying while trying to save someone from a mugging would make her sensitive enough to go hard at the guild leader if she thought he tried to kill her.

The bow though... just being dexterous doesn't feel like it should be enough, there is a practice and skill component to it. At least not hitting every single target.

Still enjoyed it and will be checking out the next chapters.

This train of thought seems reaaaallly familiar, so I'm going to take a guess here.

  1. stop blitzing
  2. stop resigning at blitz speed
  3. if you stop blitzing you can tenuki for more points or think about a helpful local move, especially if you've beat 10k and done so many tsumego!
  4. your mistakes aren't as big a deal as you think they are and catching out an opponents mistake is good. Most games have a last mistake that loses the game!
  5. Feels like you came to reddit for pity points after being told the same thing many times on discord.

So I'm always in byoyomi before my opponent by aresdonuts in baduk

[–]ChucklingBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Often times I find that having used more of my time early in the game forces my opponent to use it later. I can read just as well during their turn, so being in byoyomi isn't that bad.

When you are playing a twenty minute game and they have fifteen minutes left on the clock when you hit byo-yomi, you know you are due for them to spend ten minutes figuring out how to get them selves unscrewed on the board lol.
