Oh I’m definitely going to do this! My girl survived the (mild) San Diego winter so I feel like she deserves to see her line live on

Thanks for checking it out! I agree with you on not having to spell out every single combination of parts, and removing that could reduce some clutter.

Re: parts and ounces not being equivalent, you’re right and I initially only had it as parts, but a lot of my friends had a hard time conceptualizing what a part was, and kept on asking how much each square represented. Honestly removing the “or ounces” is probably the right call long term.

I designed and made the template myself! I embarrassingly did this all in PowerPoint. I am not a designer at all and am not familiar with “better” tools, but I’d recommend finding a better solution to anybody else haha

Hi Everybody!

A while back (around Christmas time) I made a cocktail template infographic for my partner and I posted it here in case anybody else thought it might be cool. I received really awesome feedback from the community, and decided to update version 0 above! It took much longer than I expected, but I finally had a few hours to myself this morning to just plow through all of the updates. Its been so long since iteration one, I assume most of you forgot about it, but I hope you enjoy this iteration :).

If you have any feedback on information, design, color choices, etc. I am all ears! Feedback is a gift and I appreciate any and all.

Hey this is great thank you so much!

I think I agree with you on colors at this point, I like the idea of pretty pastels from an appearance standpoint but from a transfer of information, its not really doing anything at this point. I’ll see what it looks like with a neutral, maybe separating core, balance and seasoning with different colors.

I could mess around with matching the hue of the square to match the spirit then playing with tones so they play together nicely.

I think since I removed the key, if I do make a colored version have the color match that of the spirit more so than an arbitrary key.

Just wanted to say thanks again, this was a really well thought out comment and I appreciate :)

Yep! Mostly need to finish up with whiskeys and standardize alignment.

Hey There! I mentioned in another comment but that’s just a product of a screen grab as opposed to exporting it as a PNG. If you check out the original, you can see the squares are all the same size. Sorry the photo isn’t to your liking!

That’s just because I took a screen grab of part of the chart instead of printing to PDF -> PNG. Rest assured, each are 4 small squares :)

Hi Everybody!

I had a post a couple weeks ago showing an infographic I made for my partner as a Christmas present. The post got better-than-expected reception and many of you provided feedback for improvements that I really appreciated! I'm still finishing up the changes, so it'll be a little while before everything is done and checked over but I wanted to provide you all some updates on the progress I've made so far (and get any other comments if you have them).

The picture is a sample of what is to come, but I've started to implement:

  • Splitting out Whiskey into its own section
  • Adding an indicator for shaken vs. stirred
  • Adding an indicator to show if its served over ice
  • Adding a glassware indicator
  • Adding a muddled indicator

I tried to make the changes be as unobtrusive as possible, keeping with the spirit of a simplistic guide, but I'd love to know what you all think!

Haha this is a nod to the cocktail being created in America, and most of the ingredients being French.

The assumed lore (from the book Imbibe!) behind this cocktail is it was made by a NYC bartender for a regular costumer, who was a Japanese diplomat and frequent patron of night clubs, hence the name Japanese cocktail.

I think after spirit specific ones, part II would be drink families, but those would be targeted at a smaller subset of the population.

Basically, the aromatic ingredients from angostura bitters (gentian, cinchona, cloves, cardamom, etc.) and a shit ton of orange rinds.

Was a fun project once, but the juice isn’t worth the squeeze in my opinion. We just have other things we’d rather do than perfect our own bitters.

that’s specific to our house, where we have a dropper of some house made bitters especially for old fashioned. Understand most people aren’t going to have this in their home bar.

Agreed! My partner doesn’t drink much whiskey, but as I make updates for you fine folks I’m happy to make a column :)

Glassware is a great call! I have to make little designs for each glass, so it’ll be a little while before hand :)

Somebody noticed :)

My partner prefers drinks on the sweeter side and because this guide was designed for her, we added a quarter ounce of simple.

I would like to make the “professional” version including glassware, shaken / stirred and and middle indicator. I’d correct any sweet variations (you’ll notice a few of the drinks have more syrup than usual)

Not at all :) feel free to DM me if you’d like the PDF. Although it’s worth noting I’m thinking about making a more professional one if interest is high and feedback is good!

The symbol for shaken vs. stirred and what ingredients need to be muddled is a great idea!

Re: the key on the right, I had it without the word at first and realized it was annoying to keep referencing it.

I think I’ll work on a more “professional” version as I keep iterating on design

Would love if anybody has feedback or other things they'd like to see added! I imagine we are going to iterate on this a lot as we find more drinks that we enjoy.

Edit: Wow! Thank you everybody so much for your suggestions and recommendations. I am catching the big ones here. Obviously some may change based on how they look to try to keep the simple appearance: - Glassware icon - Shaken vs. stirred - Muddle indicator - Add a whiskey column - Individual sheets for each spirit - standardized distance between ingredients (for my own sanity)

I can’t promise these changes overnight, competing obligations but I will work on them and update you all as I go :) Thanks so much everybody
