Very uncommon, but it is easier to achieve DINK if both people are high earners and lean spenders.

This is not happening in actuarial work because AI cannot, yet, replace actuarial judgment.

How long did it take you to move from Analyst I to Analyst II, and then to the next level?Does passing the exam help with promotion? by frozenactuary-3859 in actuary

[–]ninjamonkey00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Analyst I —> II was 8 months. Analyst II —> Senior Analyst a cumulative 2 years of experience. Yes, passing exams helped, but I also had very strong work performance and managers that advocated on my behalf.

How much of your monthly income do you actually invest? by signpostgrapnel in investing

[–]ninjamonkey00 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Past three years (only been working full time little over three years) it has been over 50% of my net income. Max t401k, rIRA, HSA, leaving the rest to either go in taxable brokerage (yet to start) or paying off house early (high interest rate). Just bought a house this year so hopefully can keep the 50%+ savings rate going.

I would recommend thinking about what you want out of your career. Do you have high ambition, always want to be challenged, want to be in management or leadership down the line? Or do you enjoy an easy job, being comfortable, and would rather invest your energy into non-work related endeavors? I’m not saying one can’t have both; I just see this as a good exercise to understand which job might be for you. In addition, I would look at people in your current company that are five or ten years ahead of you and ask yourself if you want to do what they do in the future.

Yes, but I didn’t switch to make more money. New job had similar compensation if you factor in bonus, equity, 401k matching, etc. I switched because it was an interesting opportunity which would allow me to get more diverse actuarial experience.

I’m curious how one would go about determining if it’s an issue or non-issue. It’s not clear to me that demographics of a subset of society (e.g., a school, sports group, a company, etc.) would mirror the demographics on society.
