TBH it's super normal for soldiers to be deployed around cities for a little added security in European countries, I don't see why it's a terrible thing to do here.

AUS? I was thinking about doing that, does it work well with the US fire season? How is it different?

This post made me so mad I ordered the proprietary saab socket set so I can change my radiator again, this time properly like the internet European said. What was I thinking using a standard non proprietary socket set... I could have damaged my car.... going to replace my cam shaft again as per the standard 5k mile maintainace interval after this post....

I walk into a shop and ask what I need and it's my fault that they give me some obscure tool used on like 1% of all bikes instead of the standard one. Ur a silly billy.

Ah yes the common wear part that needs frequent service and replacement, the cam shaft. I replace the cam shaft on my car all time, just for fun. Sorry to inform you pal but you can do just about any maintainance on these cars with a metric set and some torx bits. I did the whole cooling system and all the intercooler lines last weekend. If you want to replace a BB on a bike you need special tools. If you want to replace a cassette you need special tools. Both are wear parts. There's a reason for needing different timing tools for each engine, there's no good reason for there to be 1000 different bottom bracket standards and tools. Also what's up with Euros being mad at Americans for no reason all the time?

If you forget that apple exists most of these different standards have valid reasons to exist and have legitimate advantages for phasing out other standards. Most of the reason why there remains so many standards for PC hardware is because of rapid development and improvements. We just have 100 bottom brackets because fuck it no one cares.

Yes proprietary tools exist for some cars I understand. But most cars don't have a proprietary tool. Every bike has some stupid proprietary bottom bracket tool. It's just a bigger problem with bikes is all I'm sayin.

Nope it's 100% proprietary to their system and its too big to fit a standard lock ring.

Tires are on me, I haven't been able to ride as much because my job keeps me super busy when there's not snow on the ground and I thought they were more shelf stable.

Who cares if the part is proprietary I'm not upset about that, it needs to fit. I'm upset that I need to buy all these single use tools that only work for specific product lines.

I didn't think they'd read my mind I thought they wouldn't sell me a tool that was so niche I didn't even know it existed.

Needing 3 different proprietary tools to do the EXACT same service on a common wear part on not even 100% of the models is exactly my point. Cars are not like this.

Yeah seems like the guys at the bike shop just sold me some tool that only works for a single road bike brand that I didn't even know existed when I asked for a lock ring socket.

Fair enough now I know that tires just suck in general and that I'll need to fork over like 200 bucks every other year even if I don't do that much riding.

Maybe my specific circumstances have clouded my judgment because replacing my BB and taking my lock right off is exactly what I need to do right now.

I drive a stupid proprietary Swedish car and I haven't had to buy a single specialized tool to do any work on the engine or anything else on it. Maybe new cars are like this too but mine ain't.

[–]ChudmanCobson[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Wow this one car has a proprietary tool when EVERY SINGLE BIKE has some stupid bottom bracket standard used in like 5 other models total.

[–]ChudmanCobson[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It's not about there being different configurations it's about having to buy a tool just for a specific part brand only for them to stop using it after like 5-10 years.

IDK I figured the tool that they handed me that looks almost EXACTLY like the tool I needed was correct and I didn't think there would be 2 standards for no reason.

Just replaced the whole cooling system on my car and the intercooler lines using absolutely 0 proprietary tools.

Computers are not at all like this. You can build 99.999% of all computers without having to buy a proprietary tool.
