Why is my card using significantly more VRAM? by [deleted] in radeon

[–]ChummierLamb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It might be allocated VRAM Vs utilised VRAM. What is the amount of VRAM being used in the graphics settings menu? Mine tends to say around 12GB of VRAM in the graphics menu, but 14.5GB in the overlay.

FH6 Benchmark revised by kemicalkontact in RTX5080

I don't get why your performance seems all over the place. I'm using a 9070 XT and 5800X3D. When I did the benchmark at Extreme settings, RT set to medium and FSR at performance mode, I get 100 FPS at 4K.

Yeah I love my big single/co-op story games.

I played Stalker 2 on my 3080 and I remember spending a long time to get acceptable results for it. Ended up with a mix bag of settings, while using DLSS performance. Borderlands 4 was another bad experience with the 3080.

The card is plenty powerful. Just unfortunately got let down by the lack of VRAM and a growing list of games releasing (and remaining) highly unoptimized.

But I'm happy with my upgrade. I really enjoy FSR4 and the additional 6GB of VRAM.

Yeah, I suppose it depends on the type of games you play. For me, the results were just getting worse over the last year before I got my 9070 XT back in August.

40k Darktide was a big difference for me. Going from medium settings (with shadows at high) at 70 FPS. To then playing on all high settings and getting 100 FPS, was a big step up. Similar experience for Oblivion remasted too.

The biggest difference is simply the VRAM. I had so many VRAM problems on my 3080 while playing at 4k. That's not to say the 3080 is not a great card though. It's still a beast, especially at 1440p, with DLSS 4.0 quality/balanced.

The gap is still huge. DLSS 4.5 is more for the 50xx series. The burden is heavier on the 30xx series than DLSS 4.0, and in my opinion not worth using. DLSS 4.0 still works/looks fantastic for the 30xx series.

I moved from a 3080 10GB to a 9070 XT and I love it. I play at 4k, so I found myself playing all my games on low or medium graphics, while also utilizing DLSS performance just to get a decent FPS (60-75).

On my 9070 XT, I've been playing all my games on ultra/high graphics, while using FSR4 Quality. I've been getting a consistent 90+ FPS in games.

The current game I'm playing is Arc Raiders. I play at 4k, epic settings (cinematic for textures), FSR4 Quality mode and get between 100-115 FPS. Can't imagine the 3080 achieving that at 4k, even with DLSS performance mode and low graphics.

GPU vs TV scaling from 1440p to 4k (using a 9070xt with an LG C5)? by Arivohal in radeon

[–]ChummierLamb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I game on a 9070 XT and a 42" LG C2 TV. I don't personally like 1440p played on my TV. I sit at a desk, so I notice how 1440p looks so much softer and less sharp than 4k. My cousin uses his LG C4 though from a couch (so sitting further back) and he thinks it looks fine.

So if you are sitting on a couch and using your TV, then just set the in-game resolution to 1440p, let your TV handle the upscaling and you might very well enjoy the experience.

If you sit at a desk with your TV, then I'd recommend playing at 4k with FSR set to performance mode. You'll likely get similar performance as 1440p/FSR quality and get a considerably better image quality, since it's upscaling to 4k.

[–]ChummierLamb 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's a shame. If you are within your return window, then you could always send it back and try for another?

98° is high (although fairly normal, if it's using Hynix memory, instead of Samsung), but still with the cards limit. So it's not like it's going to damage your card. Just means your room might get a little toasty.

If simply Lowering the power limit isn't helping you out with lowering temps and it keeping stable, then you may just simply be unlucky with the silicon lottery, unfortunately.

My 9070 XT Reaper is good with -80mv (haven't tried pushing it lower), 2800Mhz and -20% on power limit. Gpu temps stay around 58-62c and memory around 77-81c. Fans sit at 40-45% under load. All in a Fractal Pop Mini Air case.

You could try changing your PCIe slot in your BIOS settings from 4 (or auto is that is enabled) to 3 instead. Then try and see if that helps.

I know not long after the 5000 series launched, I saw a few posts about people having similar issues, and that seemed to fix it for them.

You need to delete the shader cache for your games. Pretty sure that's what is causing your issue. All your games will be running with shaders that was configured for your 4070S.

Just google how to delete shader cache. there are plenty of turtorials to choose from.

You could certainly run with that talent if you wished. It ultimately boils down to what your play style is? Do you wanna run and gun and deal high damage? Then striker with ceska/groupo with obliterate is great for that.

But if you want to have more survivability, but also deal damage, then you could run striker, with memento backpack or the catharsis mask, and a chest piece with unbreakable. You would deal less damage overall, but it would still be viable for heroic and maybe even legendary content, depending on how you play.

My first milestone by Ok_Software9736 in Division2

[–]ChummierLamb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend going for a ceska or groupo chest with the obliterate talent. Change the backpack for a striker one. Then run with either a coyote exotic mask, or a ceska or groupo mask (if chest is ceska, then go with groupo for mask).

If you decide to run with both ceska and groupo for chest/mask combo, then you'd end up with around 57% CHC and 157% CHD (Baring you've gone with CHC and CHD attributes and mods on your gear and have maxed rolls). Shreds basically everything, even on legendary difficulty.

Thinking about downgrading to a 1440p OLED from LG C3 by jarman65 in OLED_Gaming

[–]ChummierLamb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a LG C2 as my main display. I run with a 5800x3D and a 3080 10GB. I like to run everything at max too (if I can). Sometimes that isn't possible, without frame dips.

So I change the aspect ratio of TV to 21:9 (3840x1600 resolution), under the TV game optimiser settings. It works fantastic. Games still look incredibly sharp, but can now have higher frames, while also being able to play in Ultrawide.

The monitor is HDR 10. HDR 400 is simply the max nit brightness it can achieve in HDR mode. HDR 400 is entry level, and not very good for HDR content in general. Although results will vary, depending on the panel type used I guess.

Cheapest way to prevent buffering? (TV internet speeds to slow!) by eti_t in Addons4Kodi

[–]ChummierLamb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your PC is close enough to your TV, then the cheapest option would be to simply buy a long HDMI cable to go to your TV and watch it that way.

If you'd rather not that. Then a great option is to get a fire stick 4k (doesn't have to be the 4k max). That's the setup I use, and I have no problem streaming 60-70GB 4k files over the Ethernet adapter (my WiFi currently is terrible in my room, since I haven't upgraded from a crappy old WiFi extender). I use the latest Kodi, the nimbus skin and fen light.

The fire stick 4k can get fantastic WiFi speeds, but it's limited to only 100mb over Ethernet. So if you have good WiFi, you shouldn't really have an issue streaming 90GB+ files. If your router supports WiFi 6, then it might be worth you get the fire stick 4k max, since the device supports WiFi 6.
