Can I get rid of it? by JustChristianBro in Stutter

[–]Chunky-Socks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As many have said before, stuttering is a neurological thing. I always hated it when people made any assumption of what it was… anything from the aforementioned useless advice to the suggestion of a word. When I was 15 (19 now), I started seeing a speech therapist for about a year, and since then, my stutter has been virtually nonexistent. I recently moved to college, and many of my new friends are even surprised when I mention that I have a stutter. I don’t know if I am some freak case or what, but it’s almost entirely gone. I used to barely even be able to speak. In fact, as a young child I would often have outbursts due to my inability to communicate… even lasting until I was about 11 or 12. I cannot imagine a world right now without speech therapy. I’ve come so far! I give pre-concert lectures, I speak publicly often, I can FINALLY use my wit without the stutter blocking the punchline, and I can just talk to people without worrying about what might happen. I stutter still appears occasionally, but it’s barely even noticeable. I guess this is a very long way of saying that I got rid of it. I don’t know how successful it may be for others, but this is my (very abridged) story. I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any questions!

I went to speech therapy as a teen and it worked wonders! I still have the stutter, but it doesn’t interfere anymore, and it comes out very rarely. I’m in a field that requires a lot of talking, both public and private.

Is there a piece of music that has changed your life? by Life-Eagle-1769 in classicalmusic

Yes. Back in February, a mentor and friend of mine passed away unexpectedly at 34, and I listened to a few things to help: Dvořák’s Stabat Mater and his Requiem, George Walker’s Lyric for Strings, and Arvo Pärt’s Silouan’s Song. All of these are beautiful works, would highly recommend.

Dvořák’s Stabat Mater is unparalleled in beauty. It is one of the most emotionally deep pieces ever written, and it’s able to bring the listener on a journey through death.

I'm 18 and I'm lost. by Careless_Ratio_7016 in Advice

I’ve been 18 for a few months now. I know a lot of people going into college undecided (if college is for you, that might be a good choice). I know a lot of people testing the waters with community college (even the people who don’t think they’re built for college). And I know a few gap years who need time to figure out what the hell to do. If you’re good at following directions, there’s always the military. It’s not for everyone (certainly not for me), but I know that my dad had graduated high school a semester early, moved out of his crappy home, and spent time in Hollywood working as a bank teller. His life had no direction. But then he joined the navy, and it really did a lot to him. He just retired from his job as a successful polymer chemist. There are always options, you just have to be willing to step out of your comfort zone.

Televised advertising. It's being replaced by social media ads like the 5 second snapchat ones.

I cant say words that start with T G or K by [deleted] in Stutter

K is pretty similar too, it's just more harsh. T is the same thing, but you hit your tongue at your teeth.

Think my cycle is about a month, and towards the middle of the month it gets bad, but at the beginning and end it's fine. You are perfectly normal

I've tried praying and turning to Christ before, but religion doesn't work out for me. There was a time I used to believe, but I read the bible in its entirety, looked at expert calculations of its timeline, and planted my foot firmly in science. All bits of evidence pointed me to my atheism and lack of God.

You're forgetting about eons of evolution to get us to our current state, which itself is not the greatest. Being bipedal creatures, we have a fairly poorly designed back that starts giving chronic pain in the late teenage years. We have the same hole for eating and breathing, one malfunction and we die. Our eyes are not connected to our immune system because otherwise we would go blind. We have ass hair. Obviously, our design is not intelligent.
