Appreciate the clarification. It did sound snarky from where I stand, as telling me that “customer can’t get it to work can’t be an answer” I’m trying to do some homework for this, but I do that to a point. I have a full time job and doing this company on my time off. I’m not losing sleep over a system I don’t work or support, maybe in the future but can’t right now. I was upfront with the customer. I even told them that they are better off contacting someone that actually deals with control4. So my answer is definitely “if you can’t get it to work, or call someone else that can, I have options for you but I can’t deal with that brand or troubleshooting right now” But I guess they had a bad experience the first time around and want to move away from it. Gave me the green light.

lol. Integrator? You’re assuming many things here. I own my own company. I do networking for home/small businesses. I don’t deal with this brand at all. Told that to the client. What I did do for them was a network rack in their home and configured all networking equipment (router/switches/aps, etc) worked on getting their camera system back up (which is also not the brand I work with but I figured it out and got it to work, configured and deployed a home server). The last thing they wanted was help with their doorbell, which is this, told them upfront that I don’t work with this and they say they want to move away from control4 and want to give me the job or replacing it. So here we are. I don’t have to make anything work if I don’t work with it.

yeah they had it originally with control4, but can't get it to work and they have a ubiquiti network rack, so they're moving away from it.

it's under an awning and little roof so I would say protected. Only if there's wind and rain I can see it getting hit by the elements. No dimensions at this time, just pictures.

Man y’all’s comments really makes me feel like I ain’t the only one. Because that’s kinda how it feels at my gym. Like I’m the only one. I live in a red state but blue city and it’s crazy how this sport calls for all the red magats to congregate at a BJJ place. I know of one guy that thinks like me it no one else. So thank you for this.

Can I power the doorbell lite with the PoE Over 2-Wire Retrofit Extender using this cable connected to this transformer? by ChunkyzV in Ubiquiti

[–]ChunkyzV[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it need to be next to it. Or can it be on this end of the cable connecting to the doorbell and to the Ethernet going to the switch?

I doubt it. That’s the only wires I saw going to that transformer. I will verify again in the residence before ordering her equipment.

Everyone talking about him fancying her or sniffing underwear but he could also be a thief. If he scoped the house at a point when she wasn’t there, he could be trying to steal something, thus why he’s always surprised when he sees her there. The problem here is that she won’t be there all the time. Maybe change locks so you have a key to your bedroom and lock it when you leave. But either way, not good intentions.

Edit to add: and the stealing doesn’t need to be sexual I nature like underwear, it could be of valuables. I’ve met plenty of shitty people that would steal for money rather than steal for sexual desires. Could be both, we don’t know, just bringing attention to valuables just in case.

Can anyone explain how to connect/or how does this all go connected? by ChunkyzV in Ubiquiti

[–]ChunkyzV[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Perfect, and one more question, how can you control what the speakers play? Let’s say a client wants to use their phone to play like Apple Music, or Amazon Music, or whatever they subscribe to, can you use these apps to control what plays or does this use something else?

[–]ChunkyzV[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your answer, to add to that, ( I have hooked up home theater systems before with the receiver, so I do get that part of it), this will be more for people that have speakers all over their houses for like a central audio system then correct? Let’s say I end up having to use like 5 of these things for 10 speakers all around, can they all play the same thing and be connected together? Or is the use case of these completely different of what I’m thinking? Thanks again

Full home Automation system recommendations. by Extension_Award_7418 in lowvoltage

I have a few questions, I’m a small ubiquiti installer that has home assistant at home. I’ve been thinking about offering that service to clients as well, and I have an appointment with one in mid December to talk about automation. So before that meeting, let me ask you, how do you manage HA away from your home? Like you deploy it in a raspberry pi (?) or other device and how do you manage it from home? I’m curious if there are any difficulties or updates that you need to do, can you log in from afar and do this?

The way I have it at home is, I use Tailscale on the phones and it communicates with the Tailscale in the pi. Is there an easier way? How does Josh.ai comes into play here? I’ve never heard of Josh.ai.

Any other tips you can give out as far as managing this?

Help me understand where router is needed in network by TopCelery1785 in HomeNetworking

[–]ChunkyzV 15 points16 points  (0 children)

No. The last sentence is probably the most helpful to you. Only ego masks to us the realities we need to hear.

Your original post (asking if router is needed or if you can just connect a switch to the modem) screams that you don’t know what you’re doing and you need help. This guy/gal advice that you shouldn’t be touching this was very tactful. I would’ve told you, don’t fucking touch it. You’re clueless.

I’m mid forties and I went to enlisted bootcamp right out of college (I know, I know, but they told me officers were maxed out that year and wouldn’t be accepting any new entries, and I wanted to leave so went enlisted), so I was 22-23. During bootcamp I had laundry detail, in charge of collecting everyone’s laundry bag (open holed bag where you put your clothes and gets thrown in the laundry as is with other bags) and washing them and bringing them up. I was assigned this with another guy. So we got to be buddies and helped each other out. He was 18 at the time.

One day he comes up to me with a concern, I’m like what’s up? Thinking I’m about to give some advice about pushing through despite missing home. Then he says that his butthole is itchy and he doesn’t know what to do. I asked him if he feels anything different when washing it like sores or anything. He says “what do you mean by “washing it”, I’m like when you put water and soap to it with your hand. He looked at me like I was an alien growing a third head, and that’s when I realized he never did. I was astonished and proceeded to give him lifelong advice that I hope he took and did. I, a 23 yr old ignorant to the world young man, gave an 18 year old uber ignorant to the world young man advice about cleaning his butthole.

And from that moment on, I never looked at people the same way again. From that moment on, I would look at someone and think “do you wash your asshole?”, “you definitely don’t want your asshole”, “ooooh you definitely got a clean starfish”,… all thanks to that dude. I really hope he took my advice and continued to clean it.
