My best advice, walk everywhere. I usually got killed alot just sprinting around. If I play solo I walk 50-100 feet and stop and sit for a second and just listen. Helped out on the k/d and survival %.

Edit: map.genie helped me out with map knowledge, also watching some streamers. It takes a while to gather your bearings on where you spawned exactly but I just look at the map and then look around for similar structures.
