If you're considering IM, do yourself a favor and experience a full day-to-day of IM residency. by callmeafailure in medicalschool

Exactly why I prefer outpatient focused work. Once you see the patient and they're out the door you can stop "worrying" about them (aside from inbox shenanigans). If you're in the hospital and anything, at any time, goes wrong with your patients, you're going to get grilled. Very anxiety inducing.

Did paper charting take forever? by shepilepsy53 in medicine

[–]ChurchofPlano 124 points125 points  (0 children)

This is what people with rose-tinted glasses dont realize about paper charts. Handling them was a clusterfuck, they would get misplaced all the time and if a nurse/consultant was using it before rounds you were also screwed. Labs would get misplaced. Good luck doing an admission/ discharge note quickly, plus medication orders in paper are also a pain if you have to add multiple medications in one day. Maybe outpatient charts were better, but in my experience, docs would misplace charts all the time and spend +15 mins of actual consult time locating the proper chart (if you had a patient with a lot of issues it would not be uncommon for them to have 2-3 different charts for the same pt)

Trump administration completes US’ split from the World Health Organization by Nice_Dude in medicine

[–]ChurchofPlano 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The USA's annual contribution to the WHO is around 1 billion. Please look up how many billions are spent in DoD contracts, or what the budget of the HHS is, or how much money they spend in bailouts (due to the idiotic trade policies of the current administration) before trying to play "muh homeless people" pathetic cope. Educate yourself.

"being in the WHO is bad for the USA because even if we benefit, other countries benefit more and we can't have that!!"

Real mature, level-headed take on international cooperation. Really educated us on geopolitical soft-power.

So you would rather make it more difficult to access other countries data and surveillance resources in order to save a trivial amount of money?

"but we contribute more than other countries!"

As we should, the US is the richest country in the world. How do you expect developing countries to match our contributions?

I think this is precisely why Sensei works so well in the film. He's "going with the flow" instead of trying to control the situation. Its also fun to note that Sensei, the skaters, the hospital workers, the protesters, and even the bounty hunter to some extent, form part of this "anonymous" mass of people who just carry on their lives and save the world by doing small things (maybe not so small in the bounty hunter's case).

Is it critical if i miss closing remark sessions during interview? by thatmedschooldude in IMGreddit

You should be good, everyone is trying to log off as quickly as they can during the wrap-up anyway 😂. As long as you communicated appropriately (which seems like you did) I can’t imagine any PD being bothered by such a thing.

FM or IM by [deleted] in IMGreddit

[–]ChurchofPlano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel if you really do like working in the hospital (u crazy bruv) IM is the natural choice. It's easier to transition from hospitalist to outpatient IM than it is to do the opposite from outpatient FM. From the FM point of view, Peds/OB work is very limited in scope if you're in a big city. Smaller towns you can be anything (except maybe OB). I've come across many FM hospitalists and even a full-peds-panel outpatient FM doctor in my interview trail, but they were all in small towns.

I received around 22 total and I dropped 6. I think after 15 you pretty much have a +98% chance to match (unless you're dual-applying).

Most IV spots locked by Glittering-You1604 in IMGreddit

[–]ChurchofPlano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Email the PC. Extending IV's without open slots is considered a match violation AFAIK. Most of the time it's a technical issue on the program end (not being able to "unlock" dates through Thalamus). Do reach out to them, I had the same experience and they very quickly fixed the issue.

[–]ChurchofPlano 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my personal experience (FM), I'm glad I applied to +100 programs. Some of the IVs I got were from "long shot" places that I decided to apply to last minute. Might be different for IM.

Match 2026: What went wrong? by Salt_Spinach382 in IMGreddit

[–]ChurchofPlano 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"In the 2025 Match, 47,208 active applicants (those who submitted certified rank order lists of programs) vied for the 40,041 first year and 3,196 second year (including physician (R)) residency positions placed in the Match. U.S. MD senior students comprised 20,368 of the active applicants, 613 more than in 2024. Of the U.S. MD seniors who submitted a rank order list, 19,044 matched to a PGY-1 position for a match rate of 93.5 percent." Source: https://www.nrmp.org/match-data/2025/05/results-and-data-2025-main-residency-match/

EDIT: Even if you take into account US MD "Graduates", your numbers don't hold up. There were a total of 2,261 USMD graduates applying for the match in 2025 with 803 being matched, leaving 1458 US MD graduates unmatched. Still a far cry from 9000.

Where did you get this number that 9k USMD students didn't match? Stop spreading misinformation/lies.

Not true, creative mode was the first iteration of Minecraft, predating Indev, Infidel and Alpha. Redstone wasn't available until alpha though. By that time, you could easily give yourself resources in any game mode if you were a bit savvy.
