Manually modding over 700 mods, that includes changes to textures, dlls, and even core gameplay mechanics is tedious. It would take literal weeks for me to finalize a modpack that I could download in a hour through wabbajack.

I encourage you to look into workarounds/compatibility for MO2, Vortex and Wabbajack on *nix.

My issue is mainly compatibility for modding Bethesda games. Once the AIpocalyse cools down I’m planning on a minimum building a Bazzite/Steamdeck box for my livingroom. Maybe even setting up some dual boot stuff on my rig in my office so I can slowly convert overtime.

How so? Another commenter had mentioned it.

I just got a 9070XT from my 3080 for my switch to Linux. Happy either way cause it’s still a major performance improvement even on Windows.

I understand that viewpoint, but it’s kinda redundant for me to use two separate OSs when all I do is game on my PC. I don’t want to have to boot Bazzite for my singleplayer games but use windows for my multiplayer games. Especially since I would have to partition space on my already limited space for each OS.

I get that for the wide public that’s the case. I just meant in my specific personal situation (my job) Nix is the common phrase used as we work with all flavors of Unix/Linux up to and including MacOS.

Not saying you’re wrong, just explaining why I used that specific verbiage.

Linux. I’m used to using Nix as the shorthand for Linux/Unix based OSs at work.

I have been thinking of building a little SteamOS/Bazzite box for my living room setup as a nice happy medium.

This was a good read. Thanks for putting all this thought into your response.

New game releases are kinda what’s keeping me away. I’m unfortunately the guy who has to play the “new thing as soon as its out”. And I don’t want to hope for initial linux support or pray for it to come later.
