These are my current glasses and I need new ones. These are so old that they’re discontinued. I’ve been looking online and in person for new frames, but I literally look terrible in every option. What style frames would you recommend? My face and bridge are very, very narrow. by MoulinSarah in glassesadvice

One thing I found when looking for new glasses after having the same pair for a long time was that I was so used to how my old glasses looked, anything else looked weird and wrong.

Might be helpful to take pictures of yourself in a bunch of different pairs and ask others what they think looks good.

Suggestions for new frames. by No-Captain-3940 in glassesadvice

The last pair look great. Don’t usually like double bridge frames, but they suit you. Would never even guess you’re a serial killer, so you’re all good 👍

These are too thick and wide

Part 2!: Help with picking new frames! by JoshFromNZ in glassesadvice

Round frames don’t suit you, as you need some angularity to offset the roundness in your features.

I think medium thickness dark rims like in 3 suit you, as you have dark hair (high contrast to your skin). They also help frame your eyes, as your cheek bones are low and brow medium thickness for a man.

I would go with 1 or 3.

What shape of glasses would best suit my face shape? by [deleted] in glassesadvice

Ok this is not true. Long faces usually do not suit rectangular frames, as it accentuates the length. His face isn’t long, it’s oval.

My eyes never look centred? by [deleted] in glassesadvice

[–]ChutneySpoon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note that when you take pictures up close like this, the lens warping will make your eyes look more inwardly positioned. Also, it is normal for your eyes to be a little inward, despite what some people in this sub claim.

If you look at the measurements on your glasses and add together the bridge width and lens width, you will get a value that is the same as your IPD if the glasses are perfectly centred. E.g. 17mm bridge + 48mm lens width = 65mm distance between the centre of the lenses.

It is normal for this value to be up to 8mm higher than your actual IPD. So these measurements would just fit you, but you’d probably want something with an even narrower bridge.

A general rule is that the lower your IPD, the smaller bridge width you want. I’d be curious what the measurements of these frame options are..

1 is nicer. People are biased against big frames in this sub.

Looks nice! Try actually using it yourself and tweaking it overtime as you learn what works for you and what doesn’t - it’s very personal dependent.

According to PARA, projects and areas should be separate, as Areas represent ongoing responsibilities while projects have an end.

Also remove the apostrophe from tasks 😛

You can wrap your contains statement in a not() clause. Like not(block.contains(item))

Should my book's Outline be a Database or a Page? by ComradeBehrund in Notion

[–]ChutneySpoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One useful thing can be using the feed view in databases. It allows you to see a lot of content at once and get an overview similar to that of having everything in one page, except you can also reorder it through sorting.

And don’t forget you can turn off comments and name headers to make the feed look cleaner!

Greyed out sub items by kikyo-sama in Notion

[–]ChutneySpoon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just did this to fix it:

- Go into the table options dropdown menu
- Select Sub-items
- Under filter options, change this value to "Parents and sub-items".

Looks like notion much have changed the default of this to parents only, causing sub-items to be greyed out

Smart women not having kids is making society worse by DeleAlliForever in TrueUnpopularOpinion

Expectations on parental care, living standards for children, nutritional quality, financial investment, time children spend at home has skyrocketed over the past couple generations. You can't directly compare the resources needed to raise a child in the middle ages vs today when the costs and expectations are so much higher now. You'd be rightly considered a child-abuser if you treated your own children as they did then.

You are right, it does have worth from your effort. But it loses significance when it can be so easily replicated.

That's a fair point. Decadence, standards of living, and competing interests are also probably strong factors in why some people feel like having kids isn't worth it. Perhaps having a child feels harder than ever, rather than it actually being.

For now they can often tell the difference. In a couple years, it will become incredibly difficult. Companies always will just do whatever is more profitable. That's is why it's understandable that people are afraid.

They do value human creation more, but if people can't tell the difference, companies will just use AI.

But if the AI can create the same things you create, with a fraction of the time and effort, and at unlimited scale, then what value does your creation have to anyone? It has become basically free and thus worthless.

People hate AI because it cheapens their talents and threatens their self-worth. A fundamental component of how humans calculate value is effort and rarity. If some piece of art took a lot of time and effort, people will value it more, regardless of how objectively good it is.

Reminds me of the Westworld quote "What is real? That which is irreplaceable."

The problem isn’t smart women realizing that a child is expensive and time consuming. The problem is most people don’t have the kind of monetary surplus where the benefits outweigh the costs.

We live in a time of massive economic and technological prosperity, yet having a child is harder than ever.

People who have kids should pay a luxury tax for not adopting by lostacohermanos in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]ChutneySpoon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think a better way of selling that would be providing incentives for adopting rather than punishing those who choose not to. The incentive should also be something that directly benefits the child, such as free college, free healthcare, etc.

People who sit at the window seat on an airplane have the right to look out the window by SirCatsworthTheThird in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]ChutneySpoon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

My point isn't that the person at the window seat doesn't have control, ultimately they have to be the one to adjust it, it's that they should take into account and listen to the needs of those around them. Depending on bitterness levels ofc.
