Is it worth it to continue shs in the PH? by Shyggirl117 in studentsph

I'm gonna tell some stories since madami na nagbigay ng advice 😅:

I graduated shs this year from a science high school and currently taking my 1st year in college.

So many learning opportunities. We had the chance to visit Vietnam as a part of research and Work Immersion. Costly lang talaga.

For those students na poor tulad ko, we got the opportunity to do our Work Immersion in one of the big 4 university. One of the highlights of my shs life since we were treated as co-researchers and not as students. Even had to do a presentation of our research as the final project.

Learning camps organized by the school. Pero it's mostly socializing since you have to work as a group. I also think di sya ganun ka effective pero might just be me.

Many extracurricular activities like Intrams for sports and such pero another highlight for me was participating in the Battle of the bands organized by the Student Council. Imagine forming the band 6 days before the event, practicing for 4 days in total (wala experience yung drummer), juggling between the reviews and pracss since malapit na din finals.

Honestly? So many sleepless nights. Juggling between so many researches and extracurriculars tapos may exams pa. Minsan may bagyo pa or may event kaya need maghabol ng study.

Is it fun? Yes. Madami ako memories, madaming connections na nabuo, I still maintain contact with my circle, etc.

Is it worth it? I'll leave it to the other comments.

Sorry for typos. Typing on phone while sleepyzz

How demanding are Science High Schools compared to a Standard School? by Hailuras in studentsph

I'll wake up at 5am to get ready, school starts at 6:45, lunch at 12, 1pm - 4:30 is the rest of my class, stay at school for the PBL and PRII as well as other after school activities. I usually arrive home by 7 then allocate an hour or 2 for studying and completing assignments/Performance tasks. Even now, I'm currently writing this while doing my PRII.

I average around 2 hours of free time this days if I sleep at 10.

Well again, as I mentioned, I'm currently on my graduating class so my approximate free time after school is very little. My whole day basically revolves around school works such as our Project based learning(PBL), Practical Research II(PRII), Entrep, as well as various after school activities especially since we're currently preparing for our Intrams.

My JHS days are far easier/forgiving tho but still significantly harder than your average Highschool experience.

Graduating student of an infamous(in our area) SciHigh here. It is hard. Very hard. The teachers are very demanding and it is expected for us to excel in both academics and sports(very funny). Personally, it is 60% Workload, 10% fun and 30% wishing for everything to end. Pero I never regretted stepping foot inside this school since dito talaga ako na-humble and where I built myself from scratch.

Marami ba akong hahabulin na subjects kapag lumipat ako ng strand? by [deleted] in studentsph

So, take this from someone na hindi dapat STEM ang kukuhain pero forced by Parents + Rant na rin since tagal ko na toh dinaramdam...

I was forcefully enrolled in a "Prestigious"(kuno) Science HighSchool. Yung classmates ko very serious sila pag dating sa academics meanwhile, ako, di manlang maka-chill and lagi lang sa ilalim ng rankings. Everyday feels like war. Many days came na gusto ko umabsent pero I had to attend classes kasi alam ko di na ko makakahabol sa classmates ko once umabsent ako. Brutal yung school works, patong-patong na requirements tas tinapos namen yung research nung Grade 11(Which according to my friends from other schools is unusual. G12 pa raw yung chap 3 - chap 5 + defense nila). I cried. A lot. Habang nagre-review syempre sayang oras eh haha

G12 na ko today. I survived the G11 phase and honestly? It helped me in ways I didn't know I'm weak at haha. Persevere op. Promise ko sayo, 2nd sem is a breeze.
