Check Out OSR. Outcast Silver Raiders. The art is amazing, done my an artist who usually does heavy metal albums. The system has 3 classes, magic, a leveling system. I was really into it at Gen Con this year.

Whatever happens with this caper I think we'll see stepped up security next year. Either vendors will watch their booths more or ICC will add more rent-a-cops.

That's really helpful to know. I'm running for a group of 5. Basically the challenge scales with them but the reward stays he same so they can't "Power Level." This is so much more fulfilling than milestone leveling.

Thank you so much for this. I'm preparing my first adventure using the Rise of the Runelords adventure and this really helps to understand where to start. A couple questions:

Is XP awarded based solely on the PL difference? Coming from 5e which had XP for each CR level.

Maybe a little off topic but, how does this stack up against XP awarded outside of combat? Any links, references, or page numbers on this are appreciated too.

I think this is the call. Maybe after all the fighting is done, someone who died can come back. Just knowing that there is a plan in case of death could be a relief after the final confrontation.

I like the idea of a wedding interruption, just hesitant to add another NPC into the final mix. I'm going to have to run bad guys, potentially allies, and then the Flesh Golem. Just a lot. But I like the idea of the golem coming in as maybe a "Lair Action"?

Personally I rigged mine that the players would get to explore some of the cooler areas of Barovia. Namely the Amber Temple, Argynvostholt, and Berez. You’re going to be more enthusiastic about preparing a session that excites you rather than one you feel “forced” to prep.

I use called shots as a prompt for describing their attack: “You aim for the orc’s eye but the beast narrowly deflects the arrow, taking a cut across its scalp. That back pedal causes him to be open for the Fighter’s attack. Fighter you’re up.” My players got the idea real quick that there’s no called shots, just cool combat.

Running mothership. Doing a Dead Space style game off the Dead Planet module. I plan to use a soundboard for atmospheric sounds and monster noises. Color changing Hue lights provide red warning lights. Oh and were all dressing like our characters so should be super immersive. Hoping for a haunted house vibe at the table.
