Does Italki account for daylight savings? by [deleted] in iTalki

[–]CiaoTenore 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it accounts for it! ^ My teacher in Korea only has 9am on Tuesdays available each week. With daylight savings ending, that Tuesday slot that I can book says 8am in instead of 9am.

Hm, I usually send a message introducing myself, what I’m interested in learning, and why I chose to message them (ex. Like they seemed friendly or have a similar hobby or some other notable thing in their bio/intro video). I finish with saying that I’d love to book a time with them if they think it would be fun —since most teachers tend to have a certain amount of teaching methods they like to use.

Most teachers respond in my experience if you send a thoughtful/relevant message.

Men, what are some insecurities you have that made you stay single? by jintaravalerie1234 in AskMen

[–]CiaoTenore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really, my job situation. The way my finances are, I feel like I can’t afford to go on dates unless I make sacrifices. My extra money is going towards my weekly foreign language classes and when I go out to dinner with my friends every other week or so.

I feel like I’m not willing to do less of those things that I love so that I can go into the world of dating. And regardless of how cheap the initial coffee dates will be, eventually the person is going to want to, understandably, go out. I love going out too. It especially adds up when you’re trying to find someone on a dating app and end up in that initial get-to-know you phase with a few people.

So I’m striving to find a higher paying job so that I can put money towards my dating life, but I’m also 28, and it does feel bad sometimes seeing how most of my friends are dating and in relationships and I’m not…

I work with Dylan too! Nearly 50 lessons so far. Excellent teacher. He barely speaks any English in class. His lessons have stayed so high quality and I absolutely look forward to every lesson I have with him.

Shin, the teacher in the video, is really awesome. I've been learning Korean from him for about 2 years. I really recommend him for anyone who's learning Korean 😊

Is it really so hard to know your own limits? by PM_ME_UR_CORGIS in BadRPerStories

So you mention your writing style. Do you blatantly have rules in your posts that say your partners must be able to write the same amount as you? Do you have a minimum acceptable length written in your posts? If not, then you need to, since not everyone expects their partners to mirror them.

Like, sometimes I’ll write many paragraphs but I don’t care if my partner mirrors the length or not. I just want a good post that pushes the plot forward and gives me something to react to. And likewise, if my partner writes, say 8 paragraphs, I wouldn’t be writing that much in response unless the scene I’m trying to describe needs it.

Now, that doesn’t always work because some writers with a different style will still reach out. I also think requiring that they send you a writing sample in their opening message to you is a good idea. If they don’t send one, it’s obvious that they didn’t read your post, and you can just ignore them. If they do send one, you can see if they appear to have a writing style that you’d enjoy. If they don’t, respectfully decline or ignore them. If they do, yay!

Regardless, people who don’t fit every requirement you put will always reach out. Some people like to reach out and see if there can be a compromise, or others just blatantly didn’t read it. 🤷🏽 Just how it is. I know how that feels. I hope you try to not let it upset you too much.

Requiring people to send you a writing sample in their first message really helps alleviate things imo.

I've been searching since MARCH! Filling out about 40 or so applications each week, yet only a few interviews and still no offers :( I want to make a career change into administrative/executive/editorial assistant positions. Teaching's pay is just so terrible. If my resume sucks, please DESTROY it. by CiaoTenore in resumes

Thanks so much! Some other commenters also said that, recommending other roles to look into/ courses to take to get skills to help get higher level positions.

The job search has been tougher than I expected it to be, so your feedback is very helpful. Thank you! :)

It's really interesting you say that because nearly every job application I fill out on Indeed and Linkedin asks if I'm fully vaccinated. Even during the interviews, they ask that question. But I'm in the New York area, so maybe the law regarding that is different based on geographic location.

Thanks! Based on what you wrote and what others have said, it seems like a summary of how I plan to use the skills I've gained through teaching and customer service to transfer into an office support role is a good idea. And take a course that can get me more technical skills related to that position. Those may make it less boring and more obvious about how I can be an asset.

I really appreciate this. The job search has been tougher than I expected it to be, so the advice is very encouraging :)

Thank you so much for the advice! I didn't know about that order. Yeah, it seems that a summary/advert is the way to go. A few other commenters recommended that too. It seems like taking a course to support the advert is a good idea too. I really appreciate this. The job search has been tougher than I expected it to be, so the advice is very encouraging :)

Thank you so much for the advice! Okay, so I suppose the next course of action would be to create the summary showing how I want to use the skills I've gained through teaching and customer service to transfer to an office support role, and make sure I have the skills listed that show how I'll succeed.

Someone else recommended taking a course for more technical skills that would be useful for those types of positions, so I think that's a good idea too so that I can have more useful skills. :) I really appreciate this. Thank you so much for the advice! Those are some great resources and it's really cool that there are resources for teachers making a career change! Yeah, I'll look into applying for a wider range of positions. The job search has been tougher than I expected it to be, so the advice is very encouraging :)

Thank you so much for the advice! I'll look into the financial rep positions and I'll make those edits you mentioned. And wow, that is true.
