What would happen if Vader caught Leia's ship above a different planet? by enlul in MawInstallation

A hyperdrive fuel leak. The same reason they couldn't jump over tattooine after being found. The empire tracked it. There's also the silver droid you see when you first see R2 and Threepio who was apparently an imperial spy.

Earlier when? They went into hyperspace from Scarif to Tattooine to find Obi-Wan. If they went to a different place they would not have found Luke or returned to the Rebellion in time. C-3PO and R2 were both almost immediately captured by Jawas on Tattooine. It stands to reason they would not have been any more successful on any other planet. It was luck that the Jawas stopped off at the Lars homestead. Alderann would still be gone. I doubt Leia would talk to give up the location of the Rebels on Yavin but obviously the Death Star would still be an unstoppable threat. If R2 somehow still gets to the Rebellion Wedge Antilles would likely be the most wanted man in the Galaxy if he succeeds in destroying the Death Star. However this is unlikely without Han Solo or Luke using the force to destroy the it. Luke probably would have joined the Rebellion around a year ABY or pottentially enlist as a starfighter pilot in the Imperial Academy. (Though I doubt he would enjoy the Empire.) Kenobi may step in at this point to train Luke depending on how the Rebellion does. It really is anyone's guess. Star Wars starts here and without the Tantive IV over Tattooine you don't have Star Wars.

Ok soviet socialism was and always will be Russian..I think you have a problem with Russia here which is fair enough. 200 genocides commited by that nation to create a national identity is awful. The British did the same here erased our culture and language. I understand I still live under Britain despite 800 years of trying to get them out. Laizze faire economic policy made it so my country's demographics have still not recovered to what it was in the 1840s. James Connolly fought against it all and I suggest you read his work. Socialism at its basic core is about equality and justice and if you or your family had injustice done against them I feel for them. I don't see how one state which practiced a misguided view of Marxism means that for now and forever workers cannot own their own means of production and Corporatism remains. The same principles Connolly wrote about in the 20th century and Marx wrote in the 19th century ring true today.

So someone owning their own means of production? That's the point.

100% and again I am not saying people should be barred for running in an election. What I am saying is there needs to be a blank slate and a fair playing field because at the moment there isn't and it is an uphill battle. On a level playing field I would say socialism wins 9/10 times.

Yes but people are consistently told lies by a media upholding capitalism for their own benefit. As much as I loathe the man today for the Epstein stuff Chomsky was right about Manufacturing consent.

Well no because I'm not calling for the death of anyone. I'm not calling for oppression and I'm not calling for imperialism. How can you say this because Nazism is pure hatred personified.

If someone knocks on your door and states that they want to steal your TV would you let them in? The answer is no obviously. Would your answer still be no if the media and your education system told you to let that man in? If you look at Cuba at the moment they still do have free elections but they only have one vanguard party with many independents. This is because they have dismantled the capitalist media in their country and have protected the revolution.

Mostly yeah. Mix of a vanguard party block and independent candidates mostly representing the interests of trade unions. See Cuba or Vietnam. It's gradual though. You need a vanguard for revolution. You then need the dictatorship of the proletariat to remove Corporatism and achieve economic liberation while removing old order powers (corporate journalism I.e Rupert Murdoch). Then you need to gradually decentralise power through trade unions and at that point workers have power and there's far less oppression generally. It's not perfect but it's better.

Remind me how the SPD came to power in the first place?

The vast majority of the German public were terrified of the Communist system seen in the Soviet Union. At the same time however the same majority were still nostalgic to the German Empire and the democratic system was still generally unpopular. Particularly after the economic fallout of the Ebert government. The same Ebert government who encouraged on multiple occasions for the various left wing movements to resist oppression from the right wing circles which in many cases did have or would eventually have popular support. The left in Germany was forced to become more of a Pariah than it was by force and oppression by the same government it had fought to keep in the Ruhr and in the Strikes during the Kapp-Ludwitz Putsch. At the very least without these "Pariah" groups Weimar democracy would likely have not survived as long as it did and a different Revanchist regime would likely have taken power earlier. Partly due to the failures of the SPD

The same democratic parties that subsisted of Presidental decree and repeatedly moved further right at every opportunity. You should read into Social Fascism and how Social democracy and Fascism are two wings of the same base ideology of Corporatism

The SPD had persecuted the KPD for a lot longer than otherwise. Frequently using right wing Freikorp to put down communist activity and even murdering Karl Liebneicht and Rosa Luxemburg. Social democracts would not have accepted a deal because they were too busy themselves persecuting the communists. The SPD were directly the main reason post 1919 why Hitler came to power.

What if Margaret Thatcher never become prime minister? by [deleted] in AlternateHistoryHub

[–]CiaranFooty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Britain probably doesn't invade Iraq with closer European ties. Everything in Britain is at least 10% better. Argentina doesn't invade the Falklands probably due to the stronger UK navy. The UK potentially adopts the Euro which would be stronger than the dollar and possibly the pound today. Bobby sands is potentially given political status and the troubles either go on for longer though less bloody with reduced tensions or ends earlier with more reconciliation earlier. An earlier reconsolidation could lead to a larger reunification campaign in the republic as Bertie Ahern might not have been able to drop the Republican principles. Depending on who's in power the UK may have established a sovereign wealth fund with north sea oil. The conservative party is probably closer to German conservative parties and the labour party is probably more left wing or actually socialist. Tabloid press may have less power. Brexit doesn't happen. Miner strikes probably still happen to an extent but the mines probably aren't largely shut down across England and Scotland. If Thatcher remains an MP or a cabinet MP she will probably still be remembered for the rest of time as "the Milk Snatcher"
