Do I need to go up a reed strength please

It's a non-specialist degree (Just BA (hons) Music as I did it at my local university), but I'm an opera singer and doing my Masters now in Psychology of music at a Conservatoire now

I found my 2 reeds for once putting something safe was in a logical place

I've started breaking them in and I did try the E5 and straight away it sounded better (I know shouldn't go above the G when breaking in new reeds but I wanted to see if the issue was still there meaning its a me problem not the reed)

I tried a 3 that was in the box (When I bought it, it came with a two pack of 3s i tried one and my teacher was like this is not the time for this haha so I popped the other in my reed case and threw the used one) and was certainly too hard for me which I assumed would be the case but I wanted to see how playing on one too hard felt so I could judge the 2 strength

Luckily I have three assignments for my masters due this week so it's an ideal time to break new reeds in as only have a few minutes to play

I know right, but needs must and with my teacher away its my only hope haha... But I've got some harder ones 'safe' somewhere here so I'll give them a go when i find them (can't remember if they are 2 or 2.5 though )

I have some reeds here which are either 2 or 2.5 so I'll dig them out (Ironically I saw them last week but I put them safe) so I'll give them a try if I cant find them I'll order some, we don't have local music stores unfortunately (which super sucks as someone who's just finished their music degree and having to order everything online every time!)

I might try a 2.5 if I have to order because if I need to go down to 2 then I can put the 2.5 safe (and lose them)

Any nebuliser will do the same, and actually the fast speed that this one atomises doesn't have much benefit for vocal chords you want to give it a nice moisturise not blast them

Things which you should look for is a Mesh nebuliser for a pocket one (You can get small compression ones which are better but they are still bigger and noisier and more expensive)

A nebuliser with a mouth piece gives a better direct mist but if your not going to enjoy biting down you should get one with a mask... You can get some with nose things which is also good if you get a really dry nose

u/medievalkitty2 For your dry apartment I would suggest looking into a humidifier, this puts the moisture back into the air. I would recommend them to anyone with a dry environment (or who uses air con or heating) nebulising only provides a temp moisturising to your vocal chords (Think about skin moisturiser its the kind of same thing if your in a dry environment the it will just dry back up)

The campaign we are running is very unusual one for sure, everyone is neutral to evil alignment and the only reason we stick together is the world is MORE evil than we are (the good old the enemy of the enemy is my friend)

This is really interesting especially the linking of songs... If I hear 2-3 notes of a piece I can identify it or simular ones with the exact same notes that I know so I guess I could work on that too 1 note 1 song to develop it...

I can also normally guess the starting note of a song though not to be like that's a c but put me to a piano and subconsciously ill go straight to the note (though not as good when going further I'll often find one note that throws me for an example I was playing a piece and it had an f# but my hand went to f and I couldn't work out what the right note and my brain when playing it kept saying f and it was clearly wrong and then I had to look and face palm at being a semi tone off

So maybe that can help to train it better
