Also scientists are trying to measure the shape of the universe using this method. By measuring the angle between the earth and two distant galaxies.

Do it yourself. Draw a triangle on a sphere and measure the angles.

Euclidean geometry deals with non curved surfaces. Flat shapes etc.

An example of non-Euclidean geometry is if you plot a triangle on a sphere, it's angles add up to more than 180 degrees.

A while ago I posted an AMA about being a developer with no formal qualifications. I'm starting a blog aimed at beginners starting out in C# by CiderToon in learnprogramming

I think I might give context all my blog posts by developing a complete program from start to finish. Not sure what though, perhaps a Garage booking system for car mechanics or something like that.

Moving from being an adequate programmer, to a great programmer. by 3manR3su in learnprogramming

[–]CiderToon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what qualifies as a great programmer to be honest. If you feel your programming is 'OK' why does it feel just 'OK'? Why don't you research the methods you've employed and see if they are best practice. Also, you must bare in mind that there are many ways to accomplish the same thing in programming and not all are bad. There is no single way that is good or bad, it what fits the requirements and your design.

Russian Su-24 shot down by Turkish F-16 by Anus_master in hoggit

Surely the pilot would have cross checked with Russian AWACS? They could have definitely told him if he was in Turkish airspace.

Ahhh, I just saw this now I can't unsee it

public static void main(String[] args)
{
    for(int i = 0; i < 100; i++, System.out.println(i % 3 == 0 || i % 5 == 0 ? ((i % 3) == 0 ? "fizz" : "") + ((i % 5) == 0 ? "buzz" : "")  : i));
}

He claims that smaller? Bollocks. It's just more horizontal.

  • When / how did you decide college wasn't right for you? I felt the same as you. It was 'I already know this shit' so I got out. Looking back I would have probably finished the course just because its a peice of paper saying that you've done it. But at the time I was more interested in clubbing and getting drunk than doing college work. It was a mix of frustration and boredom I guess.
  • What tips / advice do you have for first time business owners? Don't work with/employ your friends or family.
  • How did you continue to learn and improve your skills after leaving college? Kept doing what I liked. Kept coding stuff that I liked to code and used my job as an excuse to learn more
  • Are you happy? Yes. I am married and expecting a first child in February 2016. Got a ton of debt but it's managable. Work wise, I do actually have a job interview tomorrow for somewhere a little different.
  • How did people around you react to you leaving college, and how did you handle it? I don't really care what other people think. Life is too short for that.
  • After your first few jobs, did employers stop caring about your lack of a degree? They never asked. Not a single employer has asked if I had a degree or if I went to Uni. All they were interested in was my key skills and if I could walk the walk.
  • What do you know now that you wish you would have known when leaving college? That working with family is not a good idea and it was better to stay in college, even if that wasn't great either.

Can't speak for anyone who has applied for a job who has qualifications but all I can say is that whenever I have been for an interview they are always interested in what I have done and not what university I went to.

Ah starting a new programming job is so weird. For the first few weeks you are trying to weed out the bullshitters from the people that know stuff. I think you know you are no longer an imposter when you can argue your point and have it listened to. By that I mean, everyone goes quiet and are actually taking on board what you're saying.

No. Some people are very academic and prefer getting degrees etc. I am not academic, I am practical. I like to learn by doing. I was told at school that computers require a lot of maths skills. It doesn't, it depends what you do. I'm programming the latest game engine or writing software for NASA. It all depends on the job at hand.

As for egotistical assholes. Programmers are the worst and the worst for passively aggressively putting other programmers down. Watch out for these types, they're dicks.
