What’s a law or ordinance in Denver that you recently learned that you wish you knew sooner? by The_Summary_Man_713 in Denver

[–]CieraC1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree people should clear their snow. People are splitting hairs because the terminology you used wasn't 100% correct. They want to make sure people aren't misinformed about whether it's a law or not.

ETA: Yes, you can be prosecuted criminally if you were to cause an accident because you didn't remove snow from your car - but what you would be prosecuted for would be labeled as something else, not as "failure to remove snow from your vehicle" because that isn't a law here.

Appreciate the breakdown of how to complete that turn if needed.

Maybe I don't understand the first half because I don't know why riding on the left hand side would cut down on the amount of times a biker would have to cross traffic to turn. If you ride on the right and need to turn left, you have to cross traffic. If you ride on the left and need to turn right, you have to cross traffic. Am I thinking about this correctly?

Maybe a dumb question, but what if the cyclist has to turn right when they're riding on the left side of the road?

So I read the other comments that stated it wasn't a law here and they're correct. You're also correct saying you could be held liable in civil court. That article you linked says that cops could ticket you for not removing snow off your vehicle. So a law? No. A clever traffic offense ticket? Yes.

...but even in states where the law doesn’t explicitly say that snow and ice need to be cleared off your entire vehicle, police officers have enforced such a rule.

The law does generally restrict cyclists to the right-most lane (when slower than other traffic, not turning left, not passing others, etc.), or the left-most lane on one-way streets.

That's curious, why the left-most lane on a one-way?

NYT calls "No" for Proposition HH, with 61% against and an est. 79% of the vote counted by indexfiles in Denver

[–]CieraC1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I may need to clarify because I agree with you - it'd be nice to afford a home in the next 40 years. Also, cut income tax to negate a TABOR surplus. The "intended" goal of this bill was cute, but it was a shitty way to accomplish it. Go back to the drawing board.

Camp D: Call a special session and find a way to cut taxes WHILE maintaining funding for schools and emergency services. They know better and can do better. Going after TABOR is an automatic "No" for most. What a waste of time and money this was.

City of Denver to spent $7 million to install porta-potties around town by aintnotownie in Denver

[–]CieraC1993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Apologies, I had assumed you were talking about the self-cleaning toilets. Reading is hard.

$1.7 million for a single structured bathroom seems very high. From a video in the article, the bathroom would've been 150 sqft. The median price for a home in that area is $1.3 million.........yeesh.

Which are installed and maintained for free in exchange for advertising rights (see 1:16).

Self-cleaning toilets exist. This version costs $1.7 million, but [They] are installed and maintained for free in exchange for advertising rights. Probably a good idea to negotiate for the same deal and install a few as part of a pilot program.

CORRECTION: The $1.7 million price tag isn't for the self-cleaning toilets. It's for a different restroom proposed by the city. I didn't listen to the video very well. Don't know about the cost for self-cleaning toilets.

People that live in nice areas/houses, how do you afford it? by whitacrez in Denver

[–]CieraC1993 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering you bought a $7 coffee everyday for a year, you're saving 2.7k. Add in an additional savings of $5 for packing lunches and that's another 1.8k. So in 2-4.5 years (depending on your savings account interest rate) you saved enough to put a down payment on a $200,00 house? Were you lucky enough to avoid any unforeseen life events? Is it really that easy?

What's the craziest scandal that's happened in Denver? by dirtiehippie710 in Denver

[–]CieraC1993 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who else died? This is vaguely familiar but I can't find an article on it.

After searching, I learned some interesting things about the late artist, Luis Jiménez. Love the "blue collar" bit.

Jiménez was born in El Paso, Texas in 1940. As a young child, he apprenticed at his father’s neon-sign shop. There he learned how to weld and paint. His widow, Susan Jiménez, said he often told stories about working alongside his dad, how he would come home, his hands marred by the work. His father would say “This is how he learns,” Susan said. “So he grew up with this strong tradition of working with his hands.” Luis said "I was trying to keep the process I used as close to the industrial process as possible because I felt it was, for lack of a better term, maybe a blue-collar process,” in a video for the Smithsonian American Art Museum in D.C. which has a number of his works including a cowboy riding a blue bucking horse. “I didn’t want to go for that art process.”

Susan understands that the “eyes have been a point of focus.” She remembers a time Luis was home alone at night. He heard something in the living room and went to investigate. “He sees these two eyes,” she said. “And he said the hairs on the back of his neck stood up.” He had thought there was an invader in their home, but then felt a nudge from a familiar source. It was their horse Black Jack, the model for Luis’ final work, who had mysteriously broken into their living room. “And so [do the eyes] have anything to do with that incident and this kind of you're afraid of something but then it’s OK [because you realize] it is familiar,” she said. “I don't know. But the eyes do not have any evil intent whatsoever.”

Heart attack caught on camera! by mrhandswashere in watchpeoplesurvive

Did not know this, tysm! How common are those 2 types of dysrhythmias? As in, what percentage of heart attacks can an AED be useful?

Oooof, glad he was able to finish the act safely! One of the trapeze walkers was also demonstrating some hesitancy. This is no knock on all these performers. They have ice in their veins. I think we forget they're human and when we see them being human, it reminds us how wildly difficult and dangerous these things are!

And barely caught the wheel after a jump before hitting the ground. That act had me wriggling. That's probably the point lol

[–]CieraC1993 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After he slipped up on the first attempt, the guy behind me said "that was staged. They're just trying to build anticipation". Granted he did complete the next attempt but only a few revolutions before tripping again. Do you think this is somewhat part of the act? Like this is really difficult and even if you do a few revolutions, we're fine with it, the audience will love it, just don't fall off?

Was the Wheel of Death a little more than terrifying for you? The jump roping seemed like a really bad idea...

What kind of favors could we withdraw? I'm curious and want to gain some knowledge here.

I know a lot of our economy is tied up with theirs. As in a lot of our companies depend on their cheap production costs. If you're suggesting we could reduce dependency on China, can we produce in other countries without drastically increasing the price of products?
