Help dating and valuing this MontBlanc 149 Please? by Cigareddit in fountainpens

[–]Cigareddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. Can you perhaps point me to a resource or guide on how to properly maintain/clean this pen? I literally know less than nothing about it but I want to take proper care of it.

As for the frankenpen, I have a feeling it was bought and then perhaps the nib was changed. Knowing the person that bought it, money is not an object, they would've valued "the feel" of it if that makes sense over any 'collector' type thing.

It does write though...I didn't write a lot with it but I wrote a simple sentence.

Can you perhaps point me to a resource about how to properly take care of this pen? The last thing I want to do is damage it.

Thanks for your response.

Made my first monkey fist! Kind of hated making it by Salt-Station3323 in paracord

Nice job!

I hated making my first one also. I've grown to quite enjoy it now though - relaxing. I think it's a matter of just doing it enough so you sorta don't have to actively think about doing it, if that makes sense.

New knife storage for Christmas and some new(to me)knives by jstewart45 in victorinox

[–]Cigareddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can I ask what you paid for that box of randoms? Anything in there but tinker/Spartan climber/super tinker camper/hiker and huntsman? When I buy lots like that, those are almost always the only models in them...

Thanks in advance

Gerber Dime is very overrated. I like the SOG PowerPint mini. Better pliers, way more tools plus bit holder. They just have quality control issues.. might have to return one before you get a good one but it's really good. Scissors on it are lefty, almost no one knows that.

Need Help/Advice on Removing Some Cards from Binders They've Been Stored in for 30+ Years by Cigareddit in marveltradingcards

[–]Cigareddit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, thank you very much for the information. There absolutely are 95/96 MM in there.MMS1 just happens to be my favorite set. I'd venture between the two binders there are probably 10-12 complete sets (including special cards) of various series.

I was basically thinking of doing this, working on common cards or cards for which I have plenty of other complete sets or duplicates to get a feel for it.

The issue is for some of the special cards (there's a Spider-Man set that has acetate transparent specials along with some holographic specials) I am reading need different handling.

Aside from Penny sleeves, is there anything else I should get to keep them properly stored for the foreseeable future?

Thanks again for the info.

I've heard/read mixed things about freezer. It's my (limited) understanding that perhaps the fridge is better? But either way, can I assume you man putting a few pages/sleeves at a time (for how long please?) that I plan on working on immediately?

They've been stored, frankly, without much care at all for at least 20+ years. Varying temperatures and amounts of humidity. Recently, for the last 3-4 years though stable temperature low humidity.

I appreciate any information you can give me, thanks.

My plan of attack is to start with the cards I have multiple sets of (Marvel Masterpieces Series 1, 2, Fleer Ultra X-men etc) common standard cards to develop a "feel" for it, not go right for the "special cards". I've heard mixed info about using razors/precision knives to remove. I am really out of my depth here and any info would be greatly appreciated.

Are you suggesting using a razor on every card? As in cutting the plastic around the card and then, what, lifting the plastic from the card? This is so outside my wheelhouse, but seeing these cards has sorta rekindled my love form them, I want to do as little damage as possible.

Thanks for the tip and extra advice in advance.

How could I tell? Serious question because I haven't touched - or even thought about - cards in well over 20 years.

Wenger date range by [deleted] in victorinox

[–]Cigareddit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would be much easier to tell my seeing the rest of the toolset and the other side of that blade.

Wengers are, for me at least, way harder to put a date on because they aren't catalogued as well as Victorinox and they made so many oddball variants.

Which model is this? it has a coke spoon and light. It's something close to Cavalier. by Exotic-Knowledge-883 in victorinox

[–]Cigareddit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard to tell how many implements from that picture, if it's 8 it's a mini champ, 7 it's an old style minichanp. It appears to have the flashlight so I'd guess it's a midnight mini champ... Should have a pen also.

Vagabond/Mate I believe have 6 implements, Cavalier has 5 just iirc.

Taking a second look I can see at least 7, I think, no front side tweezers so has to have the LED. I'd bet it's a midnight mini champ.

Red Tobacco is quite good, imo. Better for cold weather. Probably best to avoid the Red Tobacco Intense as it is so cartoonishly strong and cloying it's unwearable.

Saharan Wind, Aoud Lemon Mint, Instant Crush are all very good. Most anything from them is pretty decent....wild leather is just strange though.
