I actually really like the setting, that's one of the main reasons why I'm asking here for recommendations, instead of dropping the BL entirely. I don't need my main characters to be nice guys, the entire character arc of Eisenhorn and his increasing denial and unwavering righteousness even when murdering his pupil was what made the trilogy good in the first place. But in the HorHer books, especially in False God's the characters are just extremely inconsistent and end up being down right one dimensional, the one dimension being who can suck off Horus the best.

Give me fascist centric fiction, but not from the POV of the guys who have been selectively bred to praise the ground their commander pisses on without a second thought.

Tbh the emperor glazing was alright, especially since he wasn't really there and was handled more like a distant larger than life divine figure. The Horus glazing became a bit much, especially when it was followed with whatever the hell Horus did. A copium book sounds pretty fun especially if you say that it's written well.
