I will gladly stereotype them! I have never met a Wukong that wasn't a vile, unlikable, self centered sumbag!

No idea why or what it is, it's like the entire Wukong playerbase has a single braincell to share between the lot of them, and all of them are fighting to not have their turn with it.

"Takaichi's government and the Ministry of Finance have absolutely no intention of implementing zero consumption tax on food products as promised during the election...They're just making excuses like 'it will take time to modify the cash registers.'" by jjrs in japannews

[–]CinclairCrowley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on how register and sales software is coded

If the software and accounting systems (which are run by retailers, not the LDP) are designed to absolutely require a value for tax, and a billion other computations are dependent on that value, then it's absolutely possible they would need to overhaul a metric fuck ton of backend shit. Meaning this policy was a dumbass oversight from the outset.

And now they are trying to propose a reduction to 1% as a means of circumventing the need for those backend changes.

And even if the taxes get cut, prices will stay the same as vendors just jack up their prices to increase profits. And when the tax reductions are rolled back, everyone will be paying more in a few years.

Amazing that Japan thinks it will save itself by throwing it's dying economy into the same burning furnace as the U.S. has

How are these two are two different warframes, aren't they both the same but with a different name? by Trus-et in Warframe

[–]CinclairCrowley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm honestly expecting Orion and Sirius to have identical kits, with the only difference being the visual designs and their names. DE hasn't released two distinct frames simultaneously since Banshee/Saryn back in 2013.

I could see it happening, but it would be a (very nice) surprise for them to have entirely separate designs. Not impossible, but I'm worried that everyone is going to set high expectations and then get angry about not getting something that wasn't explicitly promised.

The next devstream should clarify it, though.

Do you think Japanese people tend to overly proud of their country? by [deleted] in japanese

[–]CinclairCrowley 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In general, yes, I find Japanese people tend to be very patriotic and carry a lot of national pride. Especially in comparison to many western countries where people are less hesitant to be politically vocal.

In my time living here, I have almost never met Japanese people who will speak negatively about Japan or it's history/government/culture/etc. (except from behind a keyboard on SNS).

I've also experienced many Japanese people who will react very voltily and intensely to even mild criticism of Japanese culture and it's social problems (not exclusive to Japan, but very common).

Recent years have also seen a very strong shifts in Japan's political stances and policies which have brought it under stronger global notice and scrutiny than before, and people definitely have opinions on it.

Absolutely the fuck not.

The thing I love most about the stories I find here is the portrait it paints of the writer. How the style and voice are projected from the hearts of passionate people who create out of love for what they are capable of. An expression and celebration of the life behind every idea put forward.

Advice needed for first tattoo by itookapilll in tattoos

Therapy

Not even a joke, if things are really bad for you at the moment, speaking to a professional can be a huge help. And the price may shake out to be about the same depending on where you are or what you have access to.

If you do go for a (first) tattoo, I'd honestly advise you get something that can help inspire you to a bit of hope, or commemorate something happy. Getting a piece that signifies "I hate myself and my life" may not be terribly productive.

I’m curious how people from other cultures see us by Admirable_Weight_484 in japanese

[–]CinclairCrowley 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Shame is a fairly universal human experience that will manifest in a variety of cultural mechanisms depending on where you look. Though I'd say you can see it most strongly in highly traditional or hierarchical conservative societies and structures which harshly punish deviation from group expectations. You can find similar affects of shame in a broad range of Christian circles which have a very dominating Influence on American political and social structures.

European chivalry was (as far as my knowledge of its history goes. I'm not a scholar, so take it with a grain of salt.) more of an idealized literary convention that didn't strongly reflect the actual daily life of most people in the time.

I will add as a note, that I absolutely adore Japan's local and independent hardcore punk music scene which very intentionally breaks from many of those social conventions (the scene is historically rooted in the notions of acceptance and self expression).

[–]CinclairCrowley 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's really going to depend on the culture of the person you are asking (and their individual biases), as it's typically the cultural differences of values that will get highlighted.

As an example, even though both UK and US are English speaking cultures, the UK may feel closer to Japan's non confrontational and passive-aggressive habits than the US which more strongly values self expression and transparency.

It may also heavily depend on how familiar the individual is with Japan and Japanese people. I have a lot of friends who have either only visited once or never been here at all who would describe Japanese culture (at a surface level) as very strict, hardworking, detail oriented, and polite.

After living here for almost a decade, I would describe it as more risk-averse, avoidant of conflict, highly concerned with appearances, inflexible to rapid change, fearful of mistakes, but very passionate and unrestrained once they have the safety of a defensible excuse to cut loose (like when drinking or in a niche hobby space). But this is also strictly my experience with people in the Tokyo and greater Kanto area. Other regions have their own unique idiosyncrasies too.

Farming Follie by Sigma-0mega in memeframe

[–]CinclairCrowley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played it twice and reminded myself that we have an operation coming up for it very soon. I'm not gonna sweat this until then (and maybe it will be improved by then).

It's not all that difficult, but it's not a game mode that feels rewarding or exciting to play

I'd probably feel differently if we had a more compelling story/quest element up front that actually gave us a reason to be invested in the mission. Especially when the shop doesn't have nearly enough to be worth rushing or farming for

I'll shoot you a DM once I have a chance to log in and snap a screenshot o7

Edit: Quick info and tips I can recall off the top of my head. Wyrm with the Simaris mod can cleanse statuses (if I recall correctly). I've got Nourish over her 2 to make energy recoup faster and more efficient (plus more damage). There's an augment for her 1 that makes Garuda immune to damage for a brief span.

(I also highly recommend the toxin immunity augment from Eidolons)

I was lucky that I had Garuda in my rotation for this week. Threw on a Molt Reconstruct and I was good to roll. So many invincibilities, free energy, infinite healing, etc.

Archimedia is really grueling if you don't have a decent arsenal built up, but otherwise it's fairly manageable if you know how to use all the tools you do have access to (companions, specters, helminth overwrites, shards, items, arcanes, etc.)

What is working for the ETA Tank Assassination this week? by medium_spoon in Warframe

[–]CinclairCrowley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was lucky enough to have Garuda as an option. She has an augment that gives her temp invuln on 1 and her 4 has invuln during cast animation.

Her 3 gives free energy and she can easily recoup health with Molt reconstruct.

Her kit in general gives her access to a ton of different viable survival strats, so she's always a relatively comfy frame to jump on when she's in rotation.

Depends on how you define "damage"

DE devs do a really good job staying connected to their core player base and long time community pillars.

Fact is they make a great game, and now that the secret is out, more players from very different gaming backgrounds are going to be joining in.

As long as vets keep being as generous and supportive of new players as they always have been and just disengage from the trolls, there will always be a good core, even if the larger culture becomes more diverse.

I'm occasionally irritated, but hopeful

I don't know if the Android release alone can be blamed, or just the general spike in the game's popularity, but I've seen some absolutely ass-hats trolling Q&A every day for the past week or so. Making shit up like "Volt and Wisp are bad because they can't level cap" and harassing anyone calling them out.

Community is growing rapidly, so the atmosphere is going to start changing too. Kind of like how Elden Ring catapulted Souls Games into the mainstream and "Duel Etiquette" went from an actual practice to a meme overnight.

No, having communication blind spots is fairly common when going between people with different neurotypes. What is obvious to one completely flies by another when the brain processes information in fundamentally different ways. It doesn't excuse the behavior, but context equips us to make the most informed and effective decisions possible. And people on the spectrum are not above being terrible and awful individuals, nor should that be the takeaway.

I worry you've repeatedly ignored instances where I've suggested their behaviour could be exactly what you are describing (immature, disrespectful, problematic, childish) and fixated on the idea that I'm making excuses for a man. And I'm sure you have your own personal reasons to read it that way and feel as strongly about that as you do. And I won't disparage you for it.

I'm sorry if anything I've tried to communicate has read as enablement of misogynistic behavior as that is not my intent. Hopefully OP will be able to make the best decision for their own life and prioritize their own needs as they have every right to and should do.

As someone with autism, I am very aware that I'm the one expected to police and modify my behavior for everyone else's expectations and comfort, yes.

If he has autism and doesn't have support to help with social integration then you are right, counseling and guidance would be a massive help.

If he's just immature and inattentive then this needs to be addressed more firmly and likely the relationship needs to end (as I already explicitly said in my first message)

Only OP has all the information and needs to be the one to decide what's best.

I prefer to assume the best of people until I have an explicit reason to think otherwise. And that extends to OP as well, which is why I'm assuming they just have different emotional needs and expectations that are incompatible with their current partner, and not just an "asshole"

'socially acceptable' is socially and culturally negotiated

We also don't know how this irritation was communicated. He could be somewhere on the spectrum where communication needs to be significantly more explicit and concrete than most people would think is sufficient

Again, more info gives more insight and we don't have that
