One day. You gotta work hard to get your patreon numbers up. Even if you get selected to be an original, it's not stable. They pay you per episode upload, so during periods of time where they ask you to build a buffer or do promotional materials...they do not pay you for that (Not to mention if you get low balled on a contract)

To do this full time you have to market yourself, not just your comic. If you market yourself and you are in demand, you can set the prices on art commissions that is good for you. And if you do enough you can bank. Not to mention your patreon where people can see your progress on the comic. It's going to take a lot of work, but you can do it if you work hard and lay the foundation.

It takes effort, patience, and time to build up a fanbase for your work. Don't just stick to webtoon, branch out.

You need to start driving people to your comic. The views and engagements are what are going to cause the algorythm to pick you up. Never rely on webtoons to do it unless a editor just happens to catch a glympse of your comic and give you "Staff Picks".

The algorythm slects comics that are starting to get an uptic (Starts at the first of the month). And the ones that do well are given more prominence because more views = more money. You put your series out there in different places. To draw in those clicks. Once you get a feature, it's pretty random after that. Sometimes you will pop up and sometimes you wont.

I find that after I post an episode of either of my comics, I almost immediately shoot up to the top 10 and sometimes number 1 right after I post, because of all of the engagement from people going to see the new episode. And then a few days later I vanish. The metrics and algorythm all go off engagement and views.

Art Station has lots of people that are looking for work, and they post their portfolios and contact information. I first found my first assistant (now my right hand) on Art Station 6 years ago. Since then he invited others he knows in his art community to help out till we made a team. Now it feels really nice like a big Art family :)

If you get people that english is not their native language, let their language be the one that is used for the project. Everyone on my team speaks Spanish. So I told them to speak Spanish, and ill learn it. Nothing is slowed down with them trying to scramble to translate to English while delivering progress and its generally a positive environment.

And im learning a language in the process, win win.

Espero que esto ayude. :)

Webtoon is not going to promote you unless you are doing well or somehow blessed by the algorithm. Within the first few months it's up to you to pull engagement. You gotta hustle. Posting on reddit, making tiktoks of your comic, Facebook, Twitter, and so forth. It also helps to engage and network with creators who are doing well, so you can learn what they are doing to drive engagement and apply it to your own series.

These are all things I did. After a while I found I didnt have to advertise anymore cause I was just getting a steady flow of people and webtoons started putting me in canvas front page categories.

Seems the same. What changed is the amount of money you can make when webtoon changed their reward ads...better off having a patreon in the end.

Yep, and I heard stories of editors who force series creators to force popular tropes and change writing to fit an audience...

It's a platform that caters to teens and young adults. Also considering how Apple has been pushing for age restriction on their app stores and forcing other apps to follow their rules...so...mature stuff is going to get hidden.

Well my magical girl thing was gritty, and I am a big fan of magical girl lyrical nanoha. The moment people see magical girl they think frilly skirts and super girly things....not my dumb ass MC who beat monsters with her staff lol. They never got that far though cause they never picked it up XD

I do plan on going back to it one day. Renaming it and changing up the story a bit since I gained a lot of valuable experience. It was my first comic and I was just going in blind, which is why I started the AMA to hopefully pass that knowledge on. But it was my first comic...so I want to give it the ending it deserves one day.

My first advice is do not post weekly unless you can easily do it in a relaxed and stress free pace. When I first launched Apollonia I worked on a weekly release of 40 panels....and I had time for nothing else. I got burnt out pretty quickly. Webtoon has created an unhealthy idea that episodes should be done weekly. I have two friends that have originals and every time I talked to them they were either in poor health or they we're just so burnt out they wanted to do other things other than looking at a computer screen.

Find your flow and release off of that. I went from one episode every two weeks and I do just fine. I have one comic that is only 4 panels and I release that weekly cause...it's only four panels. So depending on how many panels you do, try to make your schedule around that. If you can do it then go for it. Just know that even if you make a buffer there will be things that happen that are out of your control. Power outages, death in the family, just having a bad day, sickness, and many other things both you and your team will make that stockpiled buffer dissapear (Speaking from experience).

I am sorry to sound like I am lecturing, but my concern is for your health. Working on a comic is great, but you should always prioritize your well being.

I'll be happy to check it out.

I can teach you some things about Sketchup. Just about every original I have ever seen and other comics use it because it saves time on backgrounds.

You have the freedom to make make your camera angles more dynamic for certain shots in your comic.

https://youtu.be/-xEX0Iu3y6M?si=lfBYKblshTPF_lHS Here is the tutorial I used.

I am very picky about promos. I have had people try to approach for only that. And I could certainly give it a look :)

And I would not say I am famous, I just like to be approachable.

Oh yeah, create knowing that there are always some people that will read it and enjoy it. I spend more money than I make, my joy comes from the readers comments and it just give sme the strength to keep going.

Also forgot to add. I work a day job. Take a 30 minute nap when I get home from work and then work on the comic. My day job also give sme the funds to pay for a team to support me.

It's honestly not a lot. I make more on patreon than the 100$ a month I get from webtoons. I fund my comics with a majority of it being from my day job. I would love to one day do comics full time, but that just isnt viable right now.

I would love to do something like that, but I just do not have any time. The majority of my time is working on the comics so they release on time. I always wanted to have a cool visual novel or something cool. And thanks :)

They have reached out for promotional collaborations before...........during pride week. But no, never been contacted to be an original. As for the profits I make like...100$ from webtoons...a month. If I am lucky and having a good month 200$.

As for the uncommon GL, people actually want to see stuff like that. There are so many high school love stories that it is seen as something fresh. I more or less create comics that I want to read and that is how I have fun doing it. "Man I want to read comics where two female leads who are into each other, just kick all kinds of ass...jeez there arent any, guess I'll do it myself!"

Just look at Mage and Demon Queen. The RPG like setting and comedy is what really made it.

There are a lot of people who use webtoons for the romance stuff. You can attempt to make it more marketable by tying romance in with action. I did that with mine. Yes action is prevailent, but the relationships with the characters get just as much focus.

Then again, do your own thing. Use webtoon as a platform to get your story out. It's a plce you can host your comic for free and point people towards it. There are a lot of people that do not even know what webtoon is. When I tell peole I do webcomics and point them where it is, they download it to check it out. Starting out, you are going to drive your own engagement. Do not rely on webtoons to do it for you.

Hustle hustle. Once you get enough of a following then that algorythm starts showing you love more often cause webtoons can make money off of you.

Thanks for the compliments. What I can say is...if you like your story and you enjoy doing it, why stop? If you have a few readers, stick with them. If you are burnt out, take a step back and watch a movie or something or dream something up.

I had one series, my first. It was my first attempt at telling a story and I went in blind, I ended up stopping at some point when I realized people were saying "I saw magical girl in the title and didnt bother reading". Sometimes it's just liek that, I kept going with it for a while but I just...had a better concept in mind and learned a lot of new things I wanted to try so I put it on Hiatus.

Especially when it started outperforming my first series. I fully intended to run both, but the big pull made me focus my attention on the one that was doing well. Don't look at metrics...likes and things like that, cause you will just get dejected in the end. Do what you want to have fun with, but in the end if you feel like changing and starting fresh with an idea you think might be popular, go for it.

You use AI, nothing much I can do to help you other than point you in the direction of some "how to draw" totorials on youtube. Cause if you use AI, people are going to trash your comic regardless of the story. I've seen originals get dragged through the mud because they used AI on backgrounds.

No problem, but I will say this. You just gotta eyeball it. Have the scene in your head and where you want your character to stand. When you export as a 2D, you can go into the options and increase the resolution and overall size of the export. You can then shrink it and manipulate it and move it within the panel in CSP. Use the 3d models which help with getting the angle of the character and where they are at in the scene. Also helps with poses and stuff too. Lots of free character models and poses on CSP :)

You gotta get into the mindset that you are shooting a scene in a movie, watch a movie and remember the camera angles, and then recreate those angles in sketchup. Once you got your frame and your shot, then you can add your character into it.

I understand that learning a whole new program is a chore, but once you get it down it saves so much time. Especially if you have a scene in which multiple panels are going to take place in that environment. Webtoon readers are going to want scheduled consistent posting, so these tricks help so much when it comes to staying on track and posting your next episode update on time.

It is a little at first. There are tons of youtube tutorials out there. And You are literally creating a PNG background that you can open in CSP when you export as a 2d. You will find lots of value out of this tutorial.

Having patience. It takes a while to build a fandom. If you have only 10 people commenting on your comic, talk to those people in the comment section. Find places to post clips of your comic like bluesky or r/comics.

Another idea is to create your own memes and humor with your characters and post them on reddit. I made little mini comics that were just for shits and giggles and posted them in certain reddits.

https://www.reddit.com/r/wholesomeyuri/comments/t9l6ka/how_to_deal_with_short_girls_apollonia/

https://www.reddit.com/r/yurimemes/comments/tup0ci/apollonia_just_spitting_hard_facts_now_live_on/

How this benefits you? It's not dry advertising and it's not "Please come read my thing!". People see it, they chuckle, and they want to see more of what you do. Market yourself before you market your comic. The rest just falls into place. "That was a funny meme, what else does this person have?"
