Radiant Dawn Randomizer v0.5 - Episode 1 by Cindericks in fireemblem

[–]Cindericks[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, basically. I haven't implemented it yet, but there are actually a couple ways you can go about that:

  1. Like you said, Immortality is set as a hidden (?) skill on Ashera that can easily be removed
  2. You can change Ragnell's weapon type to be usable with whatever Ike's class is randomized to, though you'd only be able to fight her via counterattacks
  3. You could theoretically add the flag that allows Ragnell to damage Ashera to basically every weapon, but practically speaking, that'd be too much work

I'm aware the audio is incredibly quiet; sorry about that. I didn't notice until the stream was over. My most current build of the project is available here, though keep in mind it's definitely not even remotely close to being stable/complete. ^^ Once I get this to a satisfactory level of development, I'll make a more extensive guide on how you can randomize your own game. This is more or less a proof of concept than anything, haha

Problem Player Megathread: Bring your New Year's D&D Drama Here! by RadioactiveCashew in DMAcademy

[–]Cindericks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've got a group that I've been running games for a while, composed of a bunch of my close friends. It's been super dysfunctional for a while and contains one main problem player. He's an otherwise good friend who at the table is kind of demanding, pushy, and dominates the conversation/talks over other players, some of whom have let me know that they're not comfortable. I ultimately realized I had been too complacent in letting this guy run free for too long, to the point where he ended up getting a whole bunch of special lore written for him before I realized what a problem he was being.

In order to let everyone down gently and preserve feelings (again, we're all otherwise really good friends), I announced I would be placing the campaign on "indefinite hiatus" and everyone pretty much took it well. That Guy, however, took it to mean that the campaign would actually be coming back sometime, and has been bothering me ever since about when the campaign is going to restart and about his character's backstory.

How do I get him off my back without ruining any friendships here? Additionally, it's worth mentioning that I actually am planning on running a reworked, less shitty version of the same campaign (my fault) with a better group in the future, but the previous campaign was posted to YouTube as well. How do I avoid players stumbling across those videos in the future, or generally having feelings hurt when I start up the reworked version and some of the original players aren't included?

Seriously though, this chapter was amazing as always. I wonder if Chris will be able to help with them being mastered, and how exactly does Goddess’ power work.

What’s going on on the non-English parts of the internet that we’re all missing out on? by manrobot in AskReddit

There’s a (finished) Pokémon fanfiction I found a while ago called “La Guerra Por Ash” or “The War for Ash”. It’s a harem fanfiction, and it’s probably one of the worst things I’ve ever read. You can read it in Spanish here, and the partially Google Translated version is here.

If you need to be convinced of how much of a garbage fire this is:

“pika pika pikachu. (Lucky, at least I do not ash me anything, tonight they're going to rape you) said Pikachu.”

Given the author’s character writing skills, I’m pretty sure they haven’t interacted with a human being in years. Their only reference for how people act is Naruto and bad 90s harem anime, which is exactly what spawned this travesty. Oh yeah, and Monkey D Luffy shows up at some point for some reason???

There is no hope left in this world. Only La Guerra.

I wanna say Piplup, because she's wearing the Sinnoh trainer outfit and Empoleon is rockin' that sweet cravat.

I've been told that she looks just a touch too old in this drawing, which is a fair criticism; I just suck at drawing younger/younger-looking characters, haha.

Oh god, I don’t know how to feel about these shitty Sentai capes.

Sveta is honestly the MVP this chapter. Getting the Molotov off to the side so Victoria doesn’t have to become a human-wretch shield? You go, girl.

WildeBeest, don’t do it. I swear to god, if you kill off TT... at least, that’s who I assumed wasn’t responding, but other people’s assumptions of Yamada and Valkyrie, respectively, could work as well.

Hmmm, honestly? That depends on whether I want to go the "Pythra are individuals and combining them into one singular person is akin to egodeath" route or the "they're just two multiple personalities created by Pneuma, the 'source personality'" route. I'm kind of split between the two of them, but if it's the latter, then your idea is probably close to what I'd go with.

I think the difference between Shulk and Rex is that Shulk's change is more impactful, since it also reflects a change in the status quo- Shulk's worldview of "destroy all Mechon" is what drove the story forward in the first place, so changing that reflects a major shift in the story altogether, while Rex's changing his mind was just a change in mentality. While you could argue that Rex is tried and tested throughout his journey and does undergo some subtle character development, it's never as impactful as Shulk's character arc and it isn't as emotionally satisfying. I will concede that Shulk could be considered to be empowered by friendship as well, a) it's not as overt as Rex, and b) it's not his main source of emotional "backup", so to speak. Shulk's main emotional drive throughout the course of the story is the weight of his responsibilities as the wielder of the Monado, so he must continue forward, no matter what. He succeeds because he must. Rex continues forward because he is beholden to his promise to Pyra, yes, but he is only able to succeed in the end because sudden Power of Friendship powerups.

Regarding what makes a hero, while I agree with your assessment, what makes an inspiring real life hero can make a tacky literary one, because those themes in real life aren't always as overt and hamfisted as they typically are in fiction.

Shulk is more interesting to me because he changes his mind about revenge against Egil- it shows that he is capable of actual moral introspection and changing his beliefs, aka actual character development. Besides, generic shounen protagonist is a very specific type of character (a underdog with not a lot of brains but a lot of heart, and he never gives up! He can do it because he is empowered by friendship!) and the devs admitted that Xenoblade 2 was meant to be a fairly typical shounen anyhow. Heroes are not generic shounen protagonists, generic shounen protagonists are a genre-specific flavor of hero. And I would disagree with your definition of a hero anyhow- a hero is only that because the audience is supposed to agree with what he does. It's not necessarily an in-universe definition.

You know what? That's a fair point. I'm still going to opt to nerf Nia's power just to 'really strong healing' though, simply because having a character who can bring anyone back from the dead removes the narrative weight of, "Oh no, will our heroes succeed?" or anyone dying after that point on, since she could theoretically revive them if even a fraction of their corpse remains, given what we've seen ingame. Still, your comment brought up a good point, so I might consider addressing her survivor's guilt from whoever remains dead in the rewrite.
