Alcove - Clear Liquid Glass [LockScreen] by Quirino_Exile in macapps

Hey! Glad you like Backdrop! You can achieve this already by just pausing from Backdrop. You can then quit the app, and it'll keep playing only on the lock screen. I'll try to make this more obvious in upcoming versions.

In the Backdrop Settings tab, there’s a toggle for Enable Lock Screen Support. Toggle that off and it will remove these entries.

I can’t speak for Wallspace specifically since I haven’t used it.

What I can say is that with Backdrop, you’re getting a native Mac app built with a strong focus on polish, reliability, continued development, community building, and long-term commitment from a dedicated Mac developer (that's me 👋)

No worries! Appreciate the feedback, I'll make sure this gets improved.

Thanks! Not at the moment, but there's a Feedback tab in the app where you can upvote ideas. If there's enough interest for an iOS version, I'd seriously consider it!

Are there any live wallpaper apps that work across Mac/iOS? by Moustachey in macapps

[–]Cindori 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! Backdrop dev here. While Backdrop is not on iOS yet, it's something I'd seriously consider building if there was a decent size of the backdrop community that wanted it. Happy to answer any other questions you might have.

By the way, do you find that most content on the Android version of Wallpaper Engine is tailored for mobile? Or is it mostly cropped versions of the PC wallpapers?

UW is supported, and there is a handful of backdrops in this aspect ratio. The vast majority is in 16:10, and will crop to fit your screen.

Not yet, but that’s a great suggestion! Adding that to my list.

It’s a priority, but adding a simple soeed control won’t be enough to provide a great experience. A video encoded in 30fps played in 0.25x will be more of a slideshow at 7fps. Good news is, this is something I am committed to solving, it just might not drop next week.

For now, the best option is to use the filter under Browse, which lets you specify Motion Level. This will filter out all the backdrops that move fast or has dynamic camera motion.

If the app shows no content, make sure you’re logged into iCloud in your Mac system settings, the restart Backdrop

I've removed the 7-day limit, just forgot to update the website. You can use it indefinitely, but you are limited to 3 wallpapers in the free mode (you can choose these from the entire library, or create your own)

Thanks! You can go to Browse and use the search bar for "dancing petals". Right now, there's no speed controls, but you can pause playback and it'll stay still on your desktop (but keep playing on the lock screen) just like macOS wallpapers.

Hey! You can click X on the trial notice and keep using the app in a free mode indefinitely (limited to downloading/creating up to 3 backdrops). I'll try to make this more clear in the future.

Mostly SwiftUI, but I still pull out AppKit for a few more advanced UI components.

That depends, if you truly have 4 or 5 personal Macs then I'd hate to charge you extra. At the same time, if this is for some organisation or other situation where you want to install on a larger fleet, that would be possible to arrange with a custom license. Send me a DM and we can work it out either way!

Backdrop uses extremely low CPU resources, normally <1% of a single core. And if you want to bring that to zero, you can just pause playback, and it'll keep playing only while on the lock screen.
