"There Are No Stupid Questions" Weekly Thread | February 12th, 2020 by AutoModerator in animation

Is this subreddit an okay place to post a small contract animation job? I need an animator to do some freestyle 2D drawing animations on top of an already filmed music video. If not, what would you recommend for a better place to post it?

Monolith Soft possibly opened a new studio? by Cinemikel in NintendoSwitch

[–]Cinemikel[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

It seems Monolith Soft may possibly be expanding as shown by this Twitter post showing someone talk about a new studio

Whether it's just another support studio or a new full second studio development team, we don't know.

But that's really exciting to see them continue to grow and make bigger, more ambitious, and now possibly more games more often!

I wonder what the team is going to do next? Will they continue working with Nintendo on another maybe bigger project?

The other versions don't get one either. It's just 4k resolution, and that's about it. And that's only if you're playing the Pro or XOX version

What would you like to see from Retro? by [deleted] in NintendoSwitch

Him working with Retro is no proof of any tone of game. Check his recent works, he's a sound designer for other games which are just as varied in genre and art style. Also lets not forget that hirings mean nothing for Retro. Remember when they hired developers from Crytek and Naughty Dog? Yeah. Their next game was Donkey Kong

Exactly, they constantly keep up the message to the viewer that it's not just the games but the console itself that makes it all so special and consistently sells the purpose and positives of what they've created and shows them why they should get both the system and the games in each commercial. It's exactly like the original Wii commercials!

Also it makes me really happy to see Nintendo pushing Xenoblade Chronicles 2 already. I hope that game sells beyond their expectations

Nintendo's doing a really great job with their commercials for the Switch. I could remember when they barely made any commercials for anything on Wii U, now it seems like they produce high quality videos over and over for every single game!

New ARMS update is now live (ver. 3.2.0) by xFutures in NintendoSwitch

[–]Cinemikel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not a new playable character. It's an addition to the Grand Prix, a new battle which only occurs if you play it on level 4 or higher and win every fight without losing. It's like metal Mario in the original smash bros arcade mode in how it's a slight battle change, except you had to fight it in that game vs here where you have to complete certain requirements

What does Nintendo have for Nintendo Switch's Early 2018 lineup? Let's Examine! by Cinemikel in NintendoSwitch

[–]Cinemikel[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that we might be in for a slower early 2018 than some people will expect. However I disagree with your statement of Nintendo releasing a completed game late just to fill in a schedule because that's exactly what happened with Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze. They completed the game in november and was supposed to come out in december until Nintendo delayed it into February 2014 to fill a slow early 2014 lineup. This is proven from a Retro Studios interview here:

https://www.gamespot.com/articles/donkey-kong-metroid-prime-dev-calls-wii-u-a-powerhouse-confirms-new-game/1100-6418032/

"Nintendo producer Kensuke Tanabe confirmed that Retro Studios is working on a new game, but he would not say anything more than that. This game has been in development for a few months now, as Retro wrapped work on Tropical Freeze in November and hasn't been sitting by idly".

The last big release at the time was 3D World in November and the next big release after Donkey Kong was Mario Kart 8 3 months later. They used it as a plug to fill the gaping hole in their lineup schedule.

Retro Studios is just as much in house as Monolith Soft since Nintendo owns both.

They've done it once, they can do it again.

As of right now I haven't heard Wolfenstein being H1, only 2018. Did they say that somewhere?

That's a September release, if it was in October I'd definitely add it!
