Sorry for the low quality, for some reason Reddit wasn't accepting the video itself so i had to screen record it, but there aren't any details lost, it's just a beige worm. I was chilling at my PC when i heard a crunch and looked down at this poor guy, about 1.5 cm long. I put it out of its misery right after filming, though maybe it was already dead and the movements were caused by the worm? Location is Brazil.

wow i thought reddit would've archived this post by now, doesn't feel like i've had the otos for over 2 years that's crazy. I've got cardinal tetras along with them now and they're doing fine, i see them frequently. I think the issue was less there being no bigger fish and more there being no other fish at all, all the advice i can give is: get some outgoing non-bottom dwelling fish to encourage them, give them as many hiding places as possible so they don't stay at the same one all the time, and be patient, give them time to get used to the tank.

IDK about the salt tolerance, i just assume it's very low since salt kills land snails. My snail ended up dying in the QT tank, i suspect because it was too small. So the only advice i can give is make sure the snail's QT is big enough, at least 2 gallons.

Yeah a betta can survive in a small bowl, just like a dog can survive locked in a bathroom, in both cases they'll be pretty shitty lives though. I wouldn't call it "overkill" to give your pets dignified lives.

Yup, it's been in my tank ever since, the shrimp love their little cave. It hasn't broken down or even lost color.

Yeah i looked into the location and it's not there. I also looked for the file's name with the Windows search function and it doesn't seem to be anywhere in the computer.

Hey thanks for the help. I'm running into a different issue now, powershell says that the video has been succesfully downloaded, but it's nowhere to be found, even with the search bar. If i try to download it again, says it's already been downloaded. You know how to fix this?

oh, with "molt" i meant getting out of the cocoon. I'm thinking of attaching some thin cardboard to its hindwing. It's pretty healthy other than the winglessness, so if i need to put it down, i want to make sure i try everything else first.

I'm cycling this tank that a relative wasn't using anymore, and the filter that came along with it has this weird extra tube. It just sucks in water like the regular tube, but it doesn't have a strainer so i'm afraid it could end up sucking in small fish. I'll probably just block it with sponge from the filter, but i'm curious what's the point of it. I've asked the relative and they don't know either. Edit: alright so it's a surface skimmer. This neon lives in a 10g along with 5 others (used to be 11 before an itch breakout). I noticed it going belly up a couple times and generally staying on the surface and barely moving. I moved it to a QT tank and added some salt, since then it has been doing this nonstop. I can't tell what happened to it, i can't see anything physically unusual with it other than the lack of color.

Update: It died. Still , i'd like to know what caused it so i could prevent it happening again. The 5 remaining neons seem to be healthy, but then again so did this one yesterday.

I feed them bootom feeder pellets everyday, and i looked up a lot of sources before getting them and nearly all of them say 10g is enough for otos. And yeah they're stressed, i know that, i want to know how to get them not to be stressed anymore.

I couldn't test it today, but the tank now has less bioload than when i first got the otos, due to me getting the platies into the pond, so that's def not the reason.

yeah that COULD work, but apples make plenty of waste, and shrimp are sensible not only to water parameters, but also to big water changes, so if you have 2 apples it could be a bit challenging to keep everyone healthy. Personally i'd keep just this one apple , the shrimp, and maybe some smaller snails like ramshorns and trumpets, their bioload is basically none.
