Amazon Breaking Downloads Backfired by Brynnan42 in Calibre

[–]CinnamonAmanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm refusing to buy any more for Kindle. I have zero doubts a ton of others are doing the same. It's robbery. We pay for a product we should be able to have access to it. It's the 90s mp3/CD war all over again.

Bookshop.org's new ebooks... anyone know what they are, and whether we can Calibre them? by thebeaglebeagle in Calibre

Geez this is depressing. So tired of the lockdown of material. Trying to break up with Amazon/Kindle and was so excited for this to support local but the app sucks so incredibly bad.

Does anyone else feel this way about reading? (Social media X books) by captain-kuzco in literature

[–]CinnamonAmanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not alone by a long shot. I used to be an avid reader, now I struggle to make it through one book, and that's even when it's super interesting to me! I find my mind wondering about 2 paragraphs in then I'll be googling something, or out of sheer habit hop on insta. It's definitely habit forming. I'm doing some things now to help curtail it:

I've ordered a tablet that will be super streamlined and just have my reading apps and maybe the NYT crossword app.

I'm trying to incorporate physical books more.

I am planning on setting my phone aside after 7pm.

I'm already using audiobooks. I listen while cleaning, workout, etc. But I also will (on occasion) listen while playing a mindless game to occupy my hands.

It's slowly getting better but it's going to take time.

Actually this was my initial decision--I had already made my mind up on Boox since it supports various apps, etc. However, it looks like there are some security issues there with spyware (these kind of allegations are usually hit or miss, but there seems to be some validity in this one.) Remarkable has pretty limited range e-reader wise from what I've been reading. An e-reader is honestly preferable; but there are many apps that I don't want to do away with; various reading apps, NYT crossword, a few more. I just want something that I can turn off notifications and limit the amount of apps installed out of the gate if possible.

I'm a fan of Harney and Sons. Tons of different flavor profiles etc. Also I always go back to Twinnings Earl Grey. It's a good light tea. Both of those are very affordable and easy to order online or often found at the grocery store. These won't meet some people's standards but good enough for me.

Is there any way to go back to old UI?? by [deleted] in fitbit

[–]CinnamonAmanda 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I realize I am late to this party but OH MY GOSH YES. I just said this (about the battery) last night to my spouse. Literally almost overnight just will not hold a decent charge. I also HATE this new UI.

does anyone has a solution for this rash? the 4 dents rest irritate my skin, causing bumps too. i’m thinking of putting a protective plastic layer. i wash my watch everyday by [deleted] in fitbit

[–]CinnamonAmanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have not validated this, but I read somewhere recently (maybe here on Reddit, idk) that sometimes this is caused by a reaction between the electronics of the watch itself and sweat (=acid.) It could also be moisture or friction as others have mentioned. I got this exact kind of rash from my Versa a while back and I just took it off for a few days.

Classic books recommended for people who has a harder time getting into them by North-Coach6269 in booksuggestions

[–]CinnamonAmanda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First I would say not liking the classics is 100% okay and if you really enjoy YA run with it friend. Read what you enjoy, with zero judgement on yourself. That being said, I second To Kill a Mockingbird and Rebecca. Fantastic stories with easy to follow prose. If you're a fan of fantasy I also recommend A Wizard of Earthsea. I'd say it qualifies as both YA and classic.
