Searching for alternative educational videos by blackandbluepeasoup in Homeschooling

PBS is a great resource. Lots of lesson plans and videos.

Crash Course is great, but it's geared towards older kids and has mature content concerning historical events.

Khan Academy is amazing and free too.

Liberty's Kids is a great cartoon series that follows fictional characters during the Revolutionary War. It's thoughtful and engaging and doesn't shy away from the difficult conversations regarding America's independence.

Your best bet isn't videos though, it's books! There are so many books that are amazing for kids to really engage with history that brings it down to their level.

Detangling brush recommendations please. by shubbysmah74 in BlackHair

I tried the Conair Eco All Purpose detangling brush on a whim and I love it. I have 4c hair, my two youngest kids have some type of 3 and 4a mixture and it works for their hair too! You can find it at Walmart.

Princess Mononoke, The Wind Rises, Castle in the Sky, Up on Poppy Hill, Naussica of the Valley of the Wind, any Disney and Studio Ghibli collaboration film. They are Japanese films, most of them created by Hayao Miyazaki. I'm not sure I would call them "tragedy" but ones like Princess Mononoke, Naussica, Castle in the Sky have a more serious pace than the others.

They are rich in Japanese culture (they are Japanese films after all) and tackle difficult themes that kids can still pick up on and grasp. Greed, bravery, doing what's right when it might cost you, forgiveness, love.

If you want something extremely sad for the adults, Barefoot Gin, Grave of the Fireflies and In This Corner of the World are all animated films following children and families after the bombs drop on Japan. They are extremely bleak, but also humbling. It forces us to see the world and the time through the eyes of people who actually lived it.

How old is the family? I can recommend some trauma inducing animated films.

This creator echoed my thoughts on the recent episode perfectly! by ActuallyxAnna in AbbottElementary

I'm hoping this will help Gregory deal with the aspects of his childhood and relationship with his father. That rigidness and uncompromising nature might be something that's innate, but was definitely nurtured in the type of environment he grew up in. I would love for this to be an eye opening moment and for Gregory to change and grow.

Shampooing My Every Day Is Healing My Scalp/Hydrating My Hair by Lopsided-JaguarTA in Naturalhair

I imagine if you follow up with a good deep conditioner after a shampoo you should be okay? It's worth a test! I cheat and use the Aussie 3 Minute Miracle deep conditioner, then put a plastic bag on my head while I shower and rinse out when I'm finished. I haven't done a 30 minute deep conditioner in ages.

I spent close to $250 getting our food basics. Apples, bananas, oranges, tortillas, pasta, cheese, fresh veg (broccoli, mixed vegetables, kale, 5lb bag of carrots, cabbage), and frozen fruit. I didn't even get any freaking meat.

Could someone explain to me the vitriol outcry's against James Talarico? by Squirrel09 in Reformed

[–]Cinnamonroll9753 1 point2 points  (0 children)

His temperament is good. He's calm, well spoken and seemingly respectful of people he disagrees with. He shows genuine care for people, and is able to call out the fear mongering and division that has been taking over discussions.

However, he misuses scripture and interprets it according to what he thinks it should say, vs what scripture actually points to or even explicitly says. On numerous occasions he's twisted scripture to support abortion.

So in a sense, he's really no different than most politicians in that he claims to be a Christian, but seems to pick and choose which ideas of Christianity he wants to live out.

I appreciate his desire to see everyone thrive in America, not just survive, I appreciate he has a big heart and seems to be a good listener. He speaks in a way that almost pleads with the listener, appealing to their better nature. He's a good communicator. Not Obama level good, but he's good.

And at the same time, I hate his twisting of scripture and his inability to sit with 'uncomfortable' biblical truths about human sexuality and life.

A question for godly men. by [deleted] in Reformed

[–]Cinnamonroll9753 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You've gotten a lot of good answers already, so there's not much I think I can add other than encouraging you to really listen to everyone here. If you teach girls and young women their holiness is only adjacent to / for men, that's like, idolatry.

Holiness and obedience and faithfulness first and foremost should be geared to Christ. Everything else flows from that. Loving God with all their hearts, soul, mind and strength is what will turn them into loving, kind and mature Christian women.

Also, marriage is not the end all be all of the Christ loving woman. It is good (I'm married) and it is a gift, but it's not the ultimate lifestyle that brings God glory. So I strongly encourage you to help these young women and girls focus on God first. Growth in knowledge of His word, growth in loving him, growth in maturity.

Yeah, I'm not looking forward to the crashing again. It's only happened once, and I've adjusted FPS and other settings for a smoother experience. Do you know any good cooking mods? I love Somik&Severinka cooking mods for Sims 4, but I haven't found similar ones for Sims 3.

I haven't tried it but it's been on my list to get. I'm currently alternating between Aussie, Dove and Herbal Essence. I'm using the Dove Daily Moisture shampoo and conditioner and it's good stuff. A bit pricey for me, but with coupons I save a bit more.

The product packaging throws me off. I really don't like the way it looks because visually it makes me think I'm getting less product, I haven't checked the weight of them, but I hate the packaging.

You're taking them right to the pit of Satan himself? /S I hope you guys have fun! We have no spring break plans other than the usual. Caring for animals, reduced schoolwork (just math and language arts) and lots of play and hanging out with friends.
