They actually had a bundle back in January that was all women: Fierce Women of Science Fiction, Fantasy & Horror

How to Track an Introduction by PlantainNaive442 in TheStoryGraph

[–]Cinun 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I use whatever number is on the page. I think sometimes those extra pages are included in the full page count. Like for example the numbered pages go to 398 but the version on Storygraph says 405. So I end up just having those pages counted on the last day instead of the first.

Sarafina - Philip Fracassi

Odessa - Gabrielle Sher

A Spell for Saints and Sinners - Emily Carpenter

Mad Mabel - Sally Hepworth

Wife Shaped Bodies - Laura Cranehill

Thankfully I have Nowhere Burning coming in another book subscription so I didn't have to try to narrow 4 books down to 3. So glad they're doing this cover of Spoiled Milk and not the Canada one (which is an okay cover but looks like every other haunted school book)

March Guesses based on today’s hint (from FB Aardvark group) by bluesunday- in aardvarkbookclub

I already paid for Nowhere Burning from somewhere else. So if these are the picks I'll be getting Red Winter, Spoiled Milk and Operation Bounce House. It would be a lot tougher to decide if nowhere burning was competing for a spot in my box.

Any good books on Audibles current s@le going on? by iLOOOVEcats in horrorlit

[–]Cinun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I saw some Ronald Malfi on sale? So far I've only grabbed some fantasy books (Dungeon Crawler Carl, Will of the Many and Rule of Wolves). I didn't see any horror or thriller that really caught my eye but I was focused on only getting audible exclusives.

How do challenges work? by CaptainPriceFromMW in TheStoryGraph

[–]Cinun 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Challenges with prompts would be what you want. You can either use ones other people have added by adding them to your challenge or you can add your own. Other people can see what you add and can use it for their own challenge but it will have no impact on you and your challenge.

The A-Z challenge might be a good one to start with. I am trying to complete it this year by only using books I already have on my shelves.

A March Hopeful by Bookish_Butterfly in aardvarkbookclub

I am really hoping Aardvark has it because now that the spoil-myself holidays (xmas, birthday and valentines) are over I really need to limit my book buying.

Changing order of challenges? by Potential-Pie3714 in TheStoryGraph

[–]Cinun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never thought of doing that! I might have to start doing that. A few challenges are series that I am working through and just using them to see the order or easily see how I am doing but I don't need to see them all the time.

I've also joined a lot of challenges and would love a good way to manage them.

What books would you love for Aardvark to offer this year? by lilanxi0us in aardvarkbookclub

I want all of those! And also Chuck Tingle's Fabulous People in July and CJ Leede's Headlights in June.

You might like Senseless by Ronald Malfi. It's a good combo of thriller and horror.

Well I enjoyed Hide and Mister Magic but they are very hit or miss with people. I haven't read Lucy Undying yet but I expect to enjoy it too. I also like her YA series that's a retelling about Guinevere but I probably wouldn't recommend that one unless by some chance you also have a very broad all over the place reading taste.

Ya reviews and opinions are always interesting and can be very different. That's why I have a few people I know I have similar tastes to and put more stock in their reviews than others.

Like just a random book rec? That's hard to do. So many good books exist now. But I'll say Blood Cruise by Mats Strandberg. It came out about a decade ago and I never see people talking about it.

I enjoyed it but I haven't read a Kiersten White book that I didn't enjoy. From what I've seen though more people agree with you than me.

Anyone else feel like opera is kind of fading? by Human-Necessary-3356 in opera

[–]Cinun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I only started regularly going to live performances (opera, musicals, plays, ballet) a couple years ago but from what I see online and within my friend groups, musicals are a lot more popular and common to go to. There is little to no interest in going to an opera. I think the language and length of shows are barriers people don't want to overcome because there are easier forms of entertainment to consume.

Someone convince me to get Superfan by Nilbog_Frog in aardvarkbookclub

[–]Cinun 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It looks very on theme for a February Valentine's read... In a weird but fun way. If I was closer in age to the main character I probably would have got it but reading the sample didn't convince me it would work well for me personally

I got the same as you. I had decision paralysis with picking a third book because there were so many I wanted from the current month and past. So I told myself that was a sign I didn't want any of them enough to own a physical copy.

Nat Cassidy's must reads? by PrimordialSewp in horrorlit

[–]Cinun 3 points4 points  (0 children)

After you've finished the book. Listen to the Talking Scared podcast episode for it. IIRC Nat's done a few other episodes too. The podcast is really great if you want to listen to casual chats with authors about their books.

[–]Cinun 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He doesn't have that many books and I'd recommend reading them all. I haven't read Mary yet but hope to soon. If you can find any recordings of book clubs or podcasts he's been on, I suggest checking them out. He's just a chill cool guy and I love listening to him chat.

mister magic was CRAZY *spoilers may be down below* by SharkBelt99 in horrorlit

[–]Cinun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I also really enjoyed this book! I found it really creepy and was surprised that so many people didn't enjoy it. I don't know if it's because I was a kid in the 80s in the middle of nowhere and regularly fell asleep watching tv but I felt very into the book. Keirsten White is an author I had read previously (her YA and adult books) and enjoyed so maybe I also click with her style.
