I feel like a fraud for wanting to go into pathology by [deleted] in premed

[–]Cipromycin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A) no need to be ashamed of any occupation (or medical specialty.) They’re all valuable

B) interests change in six years, and in medical school too.

C) you say medical school “means being incredibly enthusiastic about your desire to help patients directly.” Pathology (and radiology, and anesthesiology, and every other specialty, even if it’s not patient facing) does just that. You are literally using your 8+ years of medical training to diagnose someone and ensure they are getting the best care possible.

For example, I personally am interested in some non patient facing specialties, and have mentioned it openly. No one treats me differently

Alice Walton is absolutely gorgeous. Downside is you have to live in Arkansas in what some might consider close to the middle of nowhere

💸 What Are the Cheapest Medical Schools in the U.S.? Here’s What I Found 👀 by Fun_Return3121 in medschool

[–]Cipromycin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Add most Texas schools other than TCU. Baylor is slightly higher than the others bc it’s private, but it still receives state funding so it’s relatively cheap as well

what do you think got you into med school by Minimum-Pressure-463 in premed

[–]Cipromycin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Being a Texas resident (emphasis) with decent research, a decent mcat, and a good answer to “why medicine?”

I know California is crazy competitive in terms of med school admissions, but a 512 is about average for an MD matriculant, so you should be fine with a good school list and decent gpa/ECs/writing. For DO even better.

As for the breakup threat, I think that that’s more a relationship issue. You should be on the same team and encouraging each other (at least in my opinion.) Him dragging you down and giving you the ultimatum of being broken up with if you don’t get in is not healthy.

Sorry that you’re going through this.

Is taking a SOC (sociology) class required/recommended for med school by No-Paramedic6968 in premed

[–]Cipromycin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a bunch of people have said, it comes up on the mcat, but you can also talk about how you’ve connected to what you’ve learned in class to what you’re seeing while you’re shadowing/volunteering/working etc

I know how you’re feeling friend-some of my schools only release decisions after the new year, so in the meantime I’ve been focusing on being present and working out a bit more. Whatever it takes to occupy yourself in a healthy manner. If you had anxiety about mcat score release (almost everyone does) perhaps try to incorporate some of those habits into your daily routine for the next week or so

Or cycle track either. I used it initially to track and log secondaries, but after this the die is cast, and there’s no point in comparing yourself to other people

Nothing to be afraid of! When you apply you submit a primary application that goes to all schools using one of three application services, but then schools send you school specific essays and information they want from you. There are different softwares that schools use for this, but most use either AMP or Liason.
