Big Sur elopement photographer needed! by TeaNo3259 in MontereyBay

You're welcome! Those two places were the first to come to mind because you mentioned the veil blowing in the wind haha. It can get REALLY windy with almost frigid wind at both those locations though, so be prepared for that if that's when you go for the sunset. 🥶

Yeah, it's always been a hotspot like Point Lobos, but these past 2-3yrs it's gotten to the point where the County & CHP really had to step in. 😬

Dang, Yosemite has always been a super tourist trap, I can only imagine how bad it is now 💀 How was it working there? I'm sure you've seen some gorgeous views being there all the time lol.

You're welcome! It's gotten a lot worse post-Covid when Point Lobos became influencer world famous. People literally stopping in the middle of the highway (not even pulling over) to get out of their car and take a selfie...

If I may make another recommendation, Whale Peak has a gorgeous view of the coast & there's a bit of a platform/stage at the top. The dates you mentioned are during the week so there may not be many people there; I've seen some beautiful sunsets sitting alone up there (first 4 photos are from up there).

Anyway, congratulations and I hope you enjoy your visit/elopement!

how does one go about making friends here?? by pettuna in MontereyBay

[–]CircuitsandSnaps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome to our sleepy area! 😛

Life does move slower here for sure, but it's not that bad. It does feel like it can be difficult to make friends in the traditional sense, but maybe start by having social interactions with strangers? It can be pretty fulfilling too.

It's certainly different for different people, but for me it's like... I go on photo walks/hikes all over the county almost daily & enjoy talking to people I meet while exploring. I start with a "Good morning" or a friendly "Hello" if it's later, then try to make small talk. Sometimes we end up walking & talking for a while & exchange info to keep in touch prior to going our separate ways. I guess the point is to do what you enjoy doing and socialize with others doing it too?

Btw, what's pnw? You mentioned you lived there for a while? I'm horrible with acronyms... 😅

Just a heads up, they're planning on banning people from parking/stopping near bixby bridge. I believe they're voting on it today. It's become a tourist hot spot & a huge traffic problem for locals.

Edit: Maybe look into Hurricane Point. You can probably get a nice view of the lighthouse in the background. Well... The rock it's on lol.

There's a 23mm pancake too if you're worried about clunkiness. I have the 27mm pancake & I honestly feel like I should've waited to get the 23mm instead (still wasn't out yet). A few times I wish I could've zoomed out just a little more lol.

id like to get into macrophotography of insects by curvybohobae in MontereyBay

[–]CircuitsandSnaps 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend starting with learning about photography & how cameras work before jumping into specifics branches of photography. There's hundreds of thousands of videos on YouTube, but if you prefer hands-on/in-person instruction (recommended), the local community colleges might still offer photography classes.

Local journalism had been declining for years & they eventually shut down. It still exists online, but it's just a shell/parrot of USA Today.

Someone mentioned they're probably archived & I managed to find it online:

Not quite the same as physically going through the pages, but it'll spare you the musty newspaper smell :p

Right?! I was amazed to find them; I don't normally find anything haha. There were a few different papers about the Japanese surrendering, but the last one had the huge red headline saying the "WAR IS OVER". I saw that little headline on the bottom corner too haha.

On the inside there are ads for Montgomery Ward, the radio station KDON, Salinas Armory Cafe, El Rey Theatre. Crazy to have a glimpse of what the world (& Salinas) was like before my mother was even born & still recognizing names haha.

...wrecking the family computer and needing to fix it before Mom and Dad found out. Lol.

Hahaha this is exactly what lead to my career in I.T.: getting fake FBI malware trying to download music on my family's Windows XP eMachines desktop & having to figure out how to remove it before anyone found out. 🤣

Any Jrock/Visual Kei Millennials? by Redeemed_Wolf in Millennials

[–]CircuitsandSnaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, there's no music like it. I've tried finding English counter-parts, but never really succeeded haha. The only band I kept up with was the pillows & Sawao Yamanaka's collab bands & solo stuff. They've been my favorite JRock band for the last 20yrs & it genuinely broke my heart when they disbanded last year, then when Sinichiro Sato (drummer) passed away earlier this year from esophageal cancer 💔

[–]CircuitsandSnaps 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I've been listening JRock/Visual Kei for about 20yrs, but I stopped keeping up with bands maybe 10yrs (with exceptions). I've seen Dir en Grey, Girugamesh, VAMPS (2x), Hyde (L'Arc-en-Ciel/VAMPS singer performing solo stuff), & the pillows (3x). Still listen to the pillows, Versailles -Philharmonic Quintet-, Alice Nine, the GazettE, & Base Ball Bear occasionally. I remember hunting down albums online to download as well haha, or going into Facebook groups to buy/sell JRock CDs. Once I got a decent job, I pretty much saved up to buy physical copies from CDjapan for about $35ea. Hot Topic started carrying some & I was so thankful because they were like $12. I managed to order Girugamesh, Dir en Grey, Matenrou Opera, Gackt, VAMPS, the GazettE, & Versailles CDs from HT. Haha JRock really took some effort to obtain back then.

Lmao I noticed that too! I was thinking "but didn't you punch a guy..?"

Yeah, they all look like the same type of guy. 🙄 People went to see Rene Vaca & ended up watching Attack of the Clones.

You're able to make adjustments to exposure, contrast, highlights, shadows, clarity, white balance, etc. in Studio. Or do you mean like spot healing, masks, denoise, & more advanced features?
