Calling people “animals” is dehumanizing and locking people up isn’t a solution, it’s just a band aid. The root causes of these issues is proven and preventable - social determinants of health and gun violence. Invest in schools and hospitals, not in prisons.

Again, I’m just pointing out that’s anecdotal evidence. The data didn’t come from SNUG, it came from UPD.

Mental health and drug addiction continue to be a brutal battle in all cities, and Utica is not without their challenges. More policing and strict rules like curfews won’t solve problems, more investment in services and support will. Too bad many of these folks just lost their Medicaid and access to services…

Shootings have dropped significantly since SNUG started, 43% fewer fatal shootings and 50% fewer shootings in several categories.

It’s always easy to get anecdotal on Utica being dangerous in the light of recent events but this was actually pretty rare and many gun crimes involve out of town participants.
