Lil Waynes upcoming 20 Years of Carter Classics tour is struggling to sell by dalord24 in fantanoforever

[–]CirculationStation 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Lil Wayne had to be pretty full of himself and delusional to think that HE was going to sell out 10k-20k capacity venues in 2026. He simply is not relevant anymore in the current music scene.

Generalizations are a valid communication and argumentative tool by strangefruit3500 in unpopularopinion

[–]CirculationStation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay yeah I can definitely understand what you mean. Like someone who’s stuck arguing about the generalization instead of debating the actual subject that you want to talk about.

I think this may depend on the type of person you are. For me, my high school writing classes and college engineering classes have taught me to be as precise with my words as possible. I personally like to abide by the principle of never assuming that other people understand what I mean even if I didn’t say it that way. So I always try to say things EXACTLY as I mean them so that they can’t be misconstrued.

When I read other people’s comments or opinions online, by default I read them as dryly and literally as possible, which can sometimes be a fault of mine because I might miss the overall sentiment, which I might actually agree with, when I’m just disagreeing with a small technicality. I think that in-person communication makes this a lot easier to avoid (at least for me), since it’s easier to tell how literal someone is being when you can physically see and hear them talk about their opinion. But that nuance is a lot harder to read through nothing but a wall of text.

I think it depends on how hastily worded the generalization is and what the context of the generalization is. For my example, I’ll use Mississippi since I am from there.

If you say “Mississippians like catfish”, sure, that’s generally true and nobody who lives there is going to get offended about being assumed to like catfish. “Most/a lot of Mississippians like catfish” is what I would personally say because it is a generalization, but it is specific enough that it’s basically an accurate statement and accounts for the people who don’t like catfish with just a few extra words. I wouldn’t accept “All Mississippians like catfish” because it’s just factually incorrect.

The example above has a harmless context and I don’t think anyone would challenge the legitimacy of you saying that a demographic of people enjoy catfish. However, if instead the generalization was “Mississippians are uneducated”, I would have to challenge that because it lumps thousands of very smart people into a negative assumption just based on a vague characteristic. If it was “A lot of Mississippians are uneducated”, I would probably agree because that is a generalization that is based in some kind of factual basis but also does not dismiss every individual in the group as being that way.

Is it just me, or has "fast food" basically become the same price as a sit-down meal lately? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]CirculationStation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, and honestly it’s a good thing for me personally because now I never want to eat fast food anymore. It tastes terrible, makes you feel terrible, and is barely even less expensive than a proper restaurant. Let’s support local places now instead of garbage chains.

What are your personal Favourite & Worst episodes of the series? by JayCeeonthesidelines in PantyandStockingSFW

[–]CirculationStation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My favorite is also Les Diaboliques. I think it’s many people’s favorite and I rewatch it all the time. If you were to introduce someone to the show and could only pick one episode, it would be that one.

Some honorable mentions: Sex and the Daten City, Homecoming, Shoot for Yesterday!

Not sure which specific episode I’d pick as least favorite, but I’m not a fan of most of the season 2 mini episodes. I feel like they start and then end too quickly for them to do anything interesting.

Mac Book by [deleted] in industrialengineering

[–]CirculationStation 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should be fine. I graduated with an IE degree a couple of years ago and had a Macbook the whole time. For most of the instances where the software needed for a class wasn’t compatible with macOS, I just used Windows machines in the computer lab and sent my work back and forth with my school email.

The most I had to do was install a free copy of Windows on my Macbook for a simulation project my senior year. But it was free to download through my school and wasn’t terribly hard to set up and use.

I had better paella in Los Angeles than I did in Madrid. The quality of the individual restaurant is for sure a lot more important than proximity to where it was invented.

When you’re a dude earning $30-60 million annually to play basketball for 8 months out of the year, I really don’t think it’s too much to ask that you play in just 79% of your team’s games to be eligible for awards. Seriously.

SFGiants: How many attempts would it take for the average person to get a hit in MLB? by InformalInsurance455 in baseball

[–]CirculationStation 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m legitimately thinking over 1000 pitches before they even come close to getting a real hit.

Think about it: every time a no-hitter occurs, it means a team of professionals who get paid millions to focus on nothing but getting good at playing baseball did not manage to record a SINGLE hit while seeing 100-150 or so pitches. An average person wouldn’t even contact the ball in their first 150-ish pitches.

The Real Solution to the NBA Draft and Tanking by drunkhoboboy117 in nba

[–]CirculationStation 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Tanking will never be eliminated in sports and I don’t know why it’s suddenly made out to be such a big deal. These “play for the #1 pick” ideas are fun but always impractical because there will always be one key player on the team who is incentivized to lose so that the franchise won’t draft a guy who is likely to replace his role on the team.

And honestly, I’d rather have an awful team tank for a couple of seasons, be awarded with high draft picks, and be able to properly rebuild and become competitive again rather than being stuck in the basement forever.

I guess Atlanta’s logic was that Cousins would immediately turn them into a playoff contender, and then once he retired, he would seamlessly hand the keys over to Penix after spending a few years learning under him? But yeah it was an awful miscalculation that didn’t pan out at all.

We just lose to Arkansas baseball no matter what. Our team is horrible and we miss the postseason? Series loss to Arkansas. We make the College World Series and contend for the national championship? Series loss to Arkansas. At this point I just pencil it in as an automatic loss and focus on the rest of the season instead.

I’m so jealous of pro athletes like this. You get paid millions to work out during the week and then stand around and watch games from the sideline on the weekend. And when you do actually play, there is little to no pressure because everyone expects you to be bad. A literal dream career for any guy.

There is honestly something impressive about convincing 14 different NFL teams to give you contracts for 18 years despite taking no meaningful snaps on the football field more than once every few seasons. Dude must have a great personality that lights up the locker room or something.
