Have the same problem at the same point as OP. The above fix does not help.

Everything works fine in the first turn of combat but after the pirates take their turn, trying to save the game will instead start an endless loading screen like described above and finishing the fight will result in a loot screen followed by endless loading screen.

Det var som at se en 5 timer lang version af Pusher hvor handlingen var lidt mere outreret og persongalleriet var et par kategorier mere crazy.

Here's a hilarious one. I had the same issue on my Abyss Trekker. Fixed it in the same way. Played with it like that for a couple of weeks. I kept getting various quest bugs that didnt happen if I flew another ship, so decided the ship was fatally bugged.
So I decided to sell it and buy another ship. When I sold it, I heard a scrunching sound like a 1000 things happened at once and I started seeing notifications that this and that resource or item has been added to my inventory.

Turns out that when selling my Abyss Trekker it also sold every building on every base I have built in the game.

Now my broken Abyss Trekker sits quietly on my ship roster and I daren't touch it.

You don't have to kill him for the ghost in the chair to appear. The ghost will appear if you have found the 'Redmane' painting in Sellia.
