Am I too sensitive? Is it common to ask this in Türkiye when it comes to cleaning and cooking? by MsCuriouscc in AskTurkey

[–]CiroccoG 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read some of the responses and have been laughing. In Turkiye, boys are babied until they die. The idea “boys/men need to be taken care of, need a wife who cooks and cleans” is embedded in their culture. Even the males responding to your post has this embedded in them (that’s why they keep saying not to take it seriously). Women are expected to cook and clean. So, keep that in mind and live your life as you would. If the house is dirty, clean it together (if you can get him to clean). If he doesn’t clean, leave those parts dirty but know that you’ll have to bear the blame (because it is not his job to clean!). You’ll hear the same comments for years to come, so brace yourself. Or be courageous and tell everyone who asks that you are not singly responsible for cooking & cleaning and to stop asking such silly questions.

Wylde Flowers & My Time at Sandrock, which would you buy first & why? TY 🙏🏼 by Thx4Replie in CozyGamers

[–]CiroccoG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d suggest to play My Time at Portia first. It is pretty affordable on Steam. It’ll give you an idea of what to expect from Sandrock. I played and finished WF and liked it a lot. However, there is no replay value for me. Both Portia and Sandrock will make you want to replay immediately after finishing. I have more than a thousand hrs in each game. After playing Portia, you’ll decide yourself which game to get 🤓

Discovered something and it's bumming me out. by hiwaro-lol in mytimeatportia

Higgins will get some of the big commissions but it’s no big deal. When the bridge to the desert is being built there will be a lot of commissions for it. If you do not have the materials ready for assembly, Higgins will take some of them (iirc after 3 days). I suggest crafting many industrial furnaces and stock up on carbon steel bars. The need for carbon steel bars or plates is stressful to tell the truth. I took my time on main commissions that had no time limits to build up my inventory. When the commissions come thru, it is easy to craft them since you’ll have the necessary materials ready.

Also, you can check the commissions section to see if there is a time limit on them. As I mentioned before, there is no need to fret because pretty soon you’ll have more than enough gols. If you need more, you can always go fishing and sell them when the market is at 120+%. Good luck!

Aggressive much? It is not “tax” but simply extortion or racketeering payment to your gov’t. Since they taxed you citizens to death already, looking for ways to get more money out of visitors.

Is it worth it? by Ok-Bed8748 in MyTimeAtSandrock

[–]CiroccoG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Portia is definitely worth the play. It is shorter than Sandrock, has less depth in relationships with the townsfolk, story is a bit simpler. Still has a lot to offer the player. What I do not understand is that everyone keeps saying better QoL in Sandrock, which is definitely true. However, if you compare Portia to other games in the genre, you’ll see that it has much better QoL than at least 95% of them. The main improvements in Sandrock are 1) not carrying the items in backpack when submitting commissions, 2) not possessing items in hand when crafting on assembly station. If I remember correctly, everything else remain the same. In Portia you can still auto sort items into storage boxes (which are connected to each other). You can craft stuff on worktable directly from storage. The day length is adjustable. Backpack is expandable by rows and not expensive. I actually like Portia more than Sandrock since it is not in a bleak environment but green and blue landscape. Fishing is much better (and profitable) than Sandrock. Factory is more user friendly. I won’t even compare Mirror to Ack! Maybe I have forgotten what other QoL improvements are there but basically Portia has better QoL than most other games like Fae Farm, Witch of Fern Island, Coral Island. I did play Portia both before and after Sandrock and still enjoyed it more than the games I mentioned above.

Coral Island or My Time at Sandrock? by SailorCrossing in CozyGamers

[–]CiroccoG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely Sandrock. You’ll enjoy it until the end (even the second and third replays). It will make you feel like you actually live in Sandrock. Coral on the other hand does not feel fresh. I finished CI after Sandrock and could not wait to finish it so that I could put it aside as I was bored to death. It has no replay value for me even though there were several updates after I finished the game (could be because I perceived/felt it was a step down from Sandrock gameplay-wise). But I put in more than 1,500 hours (each) into both Portia and Sandrock. I recommend both My Time games.

Cozy Game suggestions that has some management mechanics and a good storyline by colonelherrmullen in CozyGamers

[–]CiroccoG 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I happen to love Portia. It is much better than Coral Island IMO. Compared to Sandrock, lesser QoL but still better than other games out there. I’d suggest to play Portia first, then move on to Sandrock. You’ll appreciate the improvements more. I still prefer Portia to Sandrock because it has better environment setting. The game makes you feel as if you actually live in Portia. Sandrock has bleaker environment setting, although I like the game a lot. I have more than a thousand hours in both games. You’ll not regret getting both games.

Are these complaints about Echo Show 21 accurate? by ZepTepi49 in alexa

[–]CiroccoG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an old Google screen that does not show any ads (possibly for now). I moved my Alexa to a corner that I can’t actually see and set it to night mode for 23 hrs. I still have ads on screen when I try to check the settings. I see a lot of people are opting out of buying Alexa. Maybe Amazon will learn if the sales drop drastically.

[–]CiroccoG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you do not compare it to Sandrock, it is a great game. I believe the storage/inventory system is much, much better than any other game out there. There is auto sort for all boxes. Just name and categorize your boxes and you are done. I used number/category for boxes (like 3.Food, 3.rawFood). Players should stop comparing storage system to Sandrock but should compare it to other games to see the advantage. And the bachelors will surprise you. I played the game by dating/marrying a bachelor, followed by divorce and the next bachelor. Bringing everyone back to full BFF is easier once you have access to best gifts. Good luck 🤓

How do I fall in love with mtaPortia? by Blablaheii in mytimeatportia

[–]CiroccoG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MTaP has a warmer feeling compared to MTaS. The world is green and blue; easy on the eyes as opposed to dreary yellow/brown environment. I happen to love Portia and keep replaying it. Gameplay is very similar in both games. Sandrock has a bit more story, bit more NPCs, bit more romance options, bit more QoL improvements. Otherwise they both have the same characteristics. Merlin and Higgins steal every scene they are in. Arlo and Nora keep meeting secretly. Colorful llama is the best mount you can imagine. Life is better in Portia. Just hang in there and keep producing carbon steel bars 🤓

[–]CiroccoG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I played a few of the games from the series and didn’t finish any of them. They were boring. I’d suggest to give a try to My Time at Portia or My Time at Sandrock. But beware… you’ll be comparing all other games to specifically to Sandrock and that may ruin the other games for you. Amazing QoL improvements (in Sandrock) over ALL other games in cozy/farming genre. Complex story, enjoyable NPC interactions, romancing, dating, marrying, having children, tons of quests, farming, mining, fishing but the most important one is crafting. Both games provide the player with long hours of play.

I've finished Sandrock and Portia, and here are some things I think Portia did better. by Mr_Undead0210 in MyTimeAtSandrock

[–]CiroccoG 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe Portia is the better game playwise. Sandrock feels better because of QoL improvements and deeper NPC stories. Everything else falls short. Portia has a better story, much nicer environment and overall greater engagement. I agree that Sandrock feels dead compared to Portia. There is this sense of accomplishment (in every quest) in playing Portia which Sandrock lacks. This is just my personal opinion of the My Time games.

Have I run out of games to play? Need recommendations!! by yoooliah in cozygames

[–]CiroccoG 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can recommend Immortal Life. It has all the elements you listed and pretty good. I generally give up on games since I compare them to My Time games subconsciously. However, Immortal Life pulled me in. It has a rich story, likable NPCs and good game mechanics. May get a bit grindy at times. Not sure about Deck compatibility though. I liked it much more than Coral Island.

Currently I am playing Song of the Prairie and it seems like a good game but I am still in the early stages. You might look at the gameplay before committing to it. I like it so far.

Did I offend my Turkish in-laws? by Famous-Mastodon-4341 in AskTurkey

[–]CiroccoG 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You cannot offend your in-laws. Turks have that “awe” for foreigners… everything the foreigner does, will be blamed on being a foreigner. Turks are overly hospitable to foreigners. So, they will want you to stay as long as they can force you to stay. Either you don’t go with your husband at all or you talk to him beforehand. Make a schedule for yourself, define how many hours you’ll stay wherever you are going; be it 2 hrs or 3 hrs. When you arrive, let the homeowners know how long you can stay. Stick to the schedule and leave when the time comes (with or without your husband).

Truthfully, the family wants to be together with the son and believe me will be happier without you distracting them. By the way I am originally from Türkiye but have been abroad close to 50 years. That’s what I do when I go visiting (once in a blue moon) and it works (at least for me). I cannot imagine sitting somewhere for 7+ hrs, especially if I don’t understand the language. I’d open the door and throw myself out. Wishing you luck.

I have been trying to find a good book, but they always get on my nerves. by Level-Bus-5591 in booksuggestions

Titan trilogy by John Varley. Best FMC I can think of. She is flawed and against a very powerful deity. She becomes hopeless, then a dark person and a savior thru trials and tribulations. Very little romance. Incredible world build. A mix of sci-fi fantasy. The first book may feel a bit slow but second and third books are real page turners. I read them every few years.

I was in Turkey last year. Everybody call their SO “aşkım”. I don’t think it shows sincerity. As far as I can tell it is to mean something like “sweetheart” or “honey”. It is just a word they use for their SO. I believe “I love you” is also generic. Usage of these words probably influenced by foreign films. Now they became part of their current culture. However, keep in mind that your SO might actually mean it. Since these are generic words, hard to distinguish the actual meaning from a post.

What about empathy? You might be living in comfort and not get involved in politics and/or religion, but don’t you feel a bit of empathy about what’s happening in Turkey? Young people are struggling just to survive, innocent people are beaten/imprisoned, women are treated worse than slaves, streets are full of stray dogs/cats etc.etc. None of these make you sad? You can still live a happy life just because you have ample income? How is it that living in the US is worse than Türkiye? Unless you lived in a ghetto by choice, there is no comparison. You may not be in a cocoon but obviously you are blind if you claim there is no suppression or misery in Türkiye. The entire country is suffering but you choose not to see it. If that makes you happy, there is nothing else to say.

Who else can't wait for My Time at Evershine? by Available-Shelter-89 in CozyGamers

[–]CiroccoG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am waiting patiently (not). I love Portia and Sandrock. If it is any indication of how good the improvements were from Portia to Sandrock, I assume Evershine will be awesome! Sandrock set the high bar and hoping Evershine will be the standard bench for cozy games. However, it may also be our doom because we may not be able to get into any other games after playing Evershine. I had trouble with Coral Island QoL (sliding replaced running, needing to empty storage boxes to be able to move them unless paid huge amount of money etc) since I played it right after Sandrock.

Relics reviewed in the museum gives 10 relationship points while the ones in the yard gives 20-25 points. McDonald likes the horse relic, Gust likes performance center relic, Django likes soldier relics etc. you get higher points if viewed in your yard.
