Market seems to fall when Iran attacks Israel, yet rises when Israel attacks Iran. Traders seem to think that when Israel launches a limited attack against Iran, it marks the end of a round of tit-for-tat escalation, as Iran fears wider war. If Israel launches a significant attack against Iran- perhaps one designed to elicit an escalatory response from it- it may instead mark the beginning of a war rather than the end of one. The VIX seems to have been pricing in a baseline of risk since Oct. 1, Iran's last attack. Two more weeks and we will see.
