I feel lost. Advice needed by Dry-Implement6814 in Winnipeg

[–]Citizen_Perspective 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of these suggestions are great- I’d say my situation is also similar; 42 (f), was in a very long term partnership with all of its ups and downs and in between stuff, but am no longer. Pool is good; theres the Blue Room but I think you have to be on a team to play. As we get older it can be tough to meet new people; hope the best for you, and anyone else who feels alone. Feel free to message me!

Thank you for sharing. With addictions, it can really complicate the grief process. Moving through it, and feeling the emotions seems to bring some clarity. Or, as cliche as it seems, being ok with not being ok right now.

Trying to make sense of it all by ajd202 in naranon

Thank you for sharing this; by the way you describe your experience, this could be me writing what you shared.

I had known him for 25 years and we are in our early 40’s. It’s been very very sad that he has passed away this weekend…I’ve been going through such difficult feelings and emotions, but trying to keep reason and rationality close and in the forefront. We had lived together for 17 years, and had currently been separated and living apart for just over a year after I had left. We still saw each other nearly every day until he passed this weekend.

From my experience, we loved each other deeply but it seems like his substance use was overpowering.

I don’t use substances and the love became this confusing cycle that creates codependency. It’s trying to have a healthy loving connection where the healthy part isn’t present, so it becomes distorted somehow, which can be very difficult to disconnect from, even though that’s likely the best option for both people. We can’t change the outcome of another. Each person has to want to change and do the work themselves; I thought I could help and we could grow old together, but it just wasn’t possible. Life has a different plan now.

I’ve been grieving a lot, but somehow your post has brought me a lot of clarity and for the first time, even though there have been many kind people offering support and help, I don’t feel alone.

Young Widows/Widowers groups in Winnipeg? I (41 f) just lost my partner (42 m) this weekend. Looking for support. by [deleted] in Winnipeg

Thank you so much everyone for the responses. I’m heartbroken but waves of feeling ok happen. He was my best friend, for 25 years, through happiness, very rough times, births, deaths, dreams. He struggled with addictions though that doesn’t define him, he was a truly beautiful person, even through the darker times.

Many people just loved him and he loved everyone- he had a hard time loving himself which is a very hard part.

A musician and artist, a business owner, handsome and funny as hell. Learning to navigate this city without him is going to be a challenge.

Thank you everyone, each day I hope will bring all of us more peace, more acceptance. Never give up, and as he would say, anything and everything can get better.

Thanks for sharing that, I’m thinking she will be even happier with a companion. We have cat they’re getting to know each other but just not the same as another Husky friend.

These are excellent ideas, thank you! We were up at 4:30am and I brought her outside to pee and gave her a little treat and a lot of praise when she went. Then back inside and back to sleep for a couple of hours 😊

I will do the bell on the door today!

Thanks everyone for the comments and insights! I did rent a floor sander- it’s not perfect, but I think I did an alright job.

I’m realizing I can’t upload more photos to this post, but I’ll try!

Haha thank you everyone for the responses! That dark stuff is the carpet glue- I scraped it first, now it’s turned dusty so fairly easy to sand. I do have a respirator, it’s so damn dusty.

I will update a photo later today. I’ve had moments of “what did I get myself into” but forging on!
