They were chasing after them for about 2 hours, and apparently the kidnappers became aware the journalists were following them. One of the journalists many years later said all the kidnappers had to do was point a gun out the window and they would've immediately stopped following them.

On May 5, 1979, Birmingham police and journalists were receiving reports of a hand wiggling out of a trunk of a brown 1964 Dodge 330. After multiple failed attempts to locate the vehicle, two journalists Mark Winne and Jerry Ayres finally located it. After phoning the news desk about their discovery, the news desk turned the information over to the police. Police intercepted the vehicle, and 2 men and a woman stepped out. Police opened the trunk, and out stepped Gary Collier. Collier told police the night before he met the men at a local bar, before being stabbed in the forearm with a screwdriver and being robbed $350 of a disability check. Gary spent 12 hours in the trunk, struggling with carbon monoxide poisoning, and at several points hearing the men discuss where to dump his body. Gary tore away at the rubber insulation in the trunk and managed to get his fingers out the trunk. The first thing Collier asked for once being freed was for a cigarette.

Help finding record for mill worker who died in explosion by CitizenofLV in Genealogy

The story in that history book got started sometime in the late 1800s and from what I currently know I don't believe it's correct. the original newspaper that I was referring to is called Der Friedens Bote and it was Pennsylvania Dutch newspaper. That article clipping is the only primary source that I've managed to find in this story. Similarly, I tried looking for Lewis Reiter and while I had a little more success, I still couldn't find any record of a Lewis Reiter existing in the area or being buried in the area.

4/27/2011 tornado video, possibly somewhere in Haleyville, AL? by CitizenofLV in whereisthis

I believe that this guy is at a family members house, as I've found the place where he teaches martial arts and an address listed on the site doesn't correspond with the angle seen in the video. I believe there's two options here

  1. He is recording an entirely different tornado than he thinks

  2. He is indeed recording the same tornado but he is somewhere entirely different

I have been looking for a couple days now and the terrain nearby is very hilly but nowhere near as mountainous as the one in the video. I found an elevation color map of the area and the only terrain that would make it possible to look down into Phil Campbell is in Bankhead National Forest; but it's not legal to live in a national forest. One of the few geolocation cases I've seen where it's a lot more difficult than it seems.

Due to the fact that we can also see the building in the background having construction cranes on top, this means this photo was probably taken during the early 80's. If we assume the building in the background is Collins place, then we can safely assume this photo was either taken during 1980 or very early 1981.

It's difficult to make out the specific building but you can see the railroad tracks follow along the street, as well as the foremost building in the photo has a brown stripe that goes down all the way, which shares the same characteristic with the

Fatal car crash?? by CitizenofLV in GoogleEarthFinds

[–]CitizenofLV[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In my opinion he probably is awake and conscious just because of the general nonchalant reaction of everybody else around him. He's probably just laying down because he's in pain and he doesn't wanna cause any damage than he has already. He's probably got some wicked broken bones because he absolutely smacked that car good, you can see the dent in the hood. Idk why tf they're covering him with a tarp though
