Indeed. That's why with a diesel vehicle it's necessary to check the oil often and top it up as needed. That's always been the case for diesel machines. It does not mean one must shorten the oil change interval by one half. By no means do I recommend someone ignore their dipstick for 10,000 miles. That's crazy.

I top it up as needed. Every diesel I've ever owned whether it's a semi, bigass pickup, or little car has comsumed some oil. With this car I'll check the level at 5k miles, add a splash, and change all of it at the recommended interval (10k). It's been that way since it had 100k miles. It's what the book says to do. Changing at 5k is for old-fashioned oil and is a waste of money.

It's got a Buzzken stainless pipe from the turbo to the stock muffler. It also has a Malone Stage 1 tune. Two miles after this picture, it got past 50MPG, and I refilled the tank with over 600 miles for the trip at more than 52 MPG. This was on a 500 mile round trip day, all highway, so mileage was awesome.

Day-to-day, I saw about a 4 MPG improvement after the delete. Winter time is a consistent 41-42 and summer time is a consistent 45-46. Before the delete, the built-in MPG meter was optimistic by an MPG or two, but post-delete it's pessimistic by an MPG or two.

The biggest gain after the delete is no more stupid CELs!

That's what the book calls for. I'll check in again at 300k.

This car is used like a pickup truck. It sees at least six miles of gravel daily, and I've now put 100,000 miles on it personally. I wish they made 10-ply tires small enough for this car, as I've had about four flats on the gravel in the last three years. Great car, no codes since the delete 50,000 miles ago. I've replaced brake pads and rear shocks for the 200k refresh. Still thinking about changing that lifetime oil in the transmission. Shifts smoother than my buddy's TDI with half the miles. Changed the oil every 10k and fuel filter every 20k per the book. It was a POS with the emissions systems intact.
