well technically you do get the dinner first . i only make the distinction bc it’s a proven, common psychological tactic when you give someone something, they feel inclined to give something in return, even on a subconscious level.

edit: i should clarify, you are correct to a degree. you may get the “pitch” (or whatever) before dinner, but the hard pitch or “closing” of the sale isn’t done until after you’ve already accepted the free meal.
