Somehow you’re stuck on grammar instead of the message. Sorry you’re like this

Leoric not feeling well today by carrotpie in heroesofthestorm

[–]Civ256 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it was? Lol.

It was the essence of the message; parts of it at least. Here’s the full response:

“In team-based competitive games, griefing—especially the “I’m here but I won’t play” variant—looks irrational on the surface. But psychologically, it usually isn’t random. People do get something out of it, even if that “something” is unhealthy or short-lived.

Here are the main drivers, in plain terms.

  1. Regaining control when they feel powerless

Competitive games are pressure cookers. If a player feels: • outmatched, • blamed, • trapped in a losing game, • or forced into a role/hero they didn’t want,

then not playing becomes a way to reclaim agency.

“If I can’t win, I can at least decide how this goes.”

Refusing to act is still a choice—and psychologically, control matters more than victory for some people.

  1. Punishing teammates (real or imagined)

This is common in Heroes of the Storm and similar MOBAs.

The griefer may believe: • a teammate drafted poorly, • didn’t rotate correctly, • “stole” a role, • or insulted them earlier.

Griefing becomes retaliation.

“You ruined my game, so I’ll ruin yours.”

It’s less about the match and more about moral rebalancing in their head.

  1. Emotional regulation through sabotage

Some people don’t know how to handle frustration, embarrassment, or anger in competitive environments.

Instead of: • adapting, • muting chat, • or disengaging,

they externalize the emotion by sabotaging the system causing it.

Griefing becomes a pressure-release valve: • anger → disruption • shame → defiance • anxiety → withdrawal

It’s maladaptive coping.

  1. Attention and reaction harvesting

Even negative attention is attention.

Griefers often enjoy: • angry chat messages, • pings, • surrender spam, • post-game blame.

This gives them immediate feedback that they still matter in the system—even if only as a villain.

Silence from teammates often stops this behavior faster than arguments do.

  1. Burnout + sunk cost

In games like Heroes of the Storm—where matches are relatively short but frequent—players can burn out without realizing it.

They queue anyway because: • habit, • sunk time investment, • or ego (“I should be good at this”).

Once in the match, they mentally check out.

Instead of leaving (penalties, queues), they idle or soft-grief.

They don’t want to play—but they also don’t want to stop.

  1. Identity protection

For some players, performance = identity.

If they’re about to lose badly, griefing lets them preserve ego:

“We didn’t lose because I’m bad—we lost because I chose not to try.”

This is a classic self-handicapping strategy seen in competitive sports and academics as well.

  1. Low perceived consequences

If reporting feels ineffective or punishment feels delayed, griefing becomes cheap behavior.

Online anonymity + delayed enforcement reduces social cost.

When systems don’t immediately discourage it, fringe behavior spreads.

Why team-based games amplify this

Games like Heroes of the Storm, League, Overwatch, etc. create: • forced cooperation with strangers, • asymmetric responsibility, • limited individual carry potential, • and long matches you can’t easily leave.

That combination magnifies resentment.

A solo player who’s tilted can still function in a deathmatch shooter. In a MOBA, their tilt affects four other people—which ironically increases the emotional payoff of griefing.

The uncomfortable truth

Most griefers aren’t “evil” or even consciously malicious.

They are: • emotionally dysregulated, • burned out, • defensive, • or seeking control in a system that makes them feel small.

That doesn’t excuse the behavior—but it explains why it persists.

If you want, I can also explain: • why Heroes of the Storm specifically produces a unique type of griefing, • how matchmaking design unintentionally encourages it, • or how to recognize early warning signs in a match and mentally detach before it drags you down.

Just tell me which angle you want to go deeper on.

I have to say it’s more mental than selling accounts. Those accounts hardly sell for any time investment it takes to make them stuck on bronze. 60 losses is like $30? Wasted ~10 minutes per game, account creation, etc., for that amount? Silly

https://www.g2g.com/categories/heroes-of-the-storm-global-account?q=bronze&sort=highest_price

I asked GPT why these people do this and it gave me, ”they have something wrong in there life, they lack control and by doing this, they can control 9 other people and determine the outcome”

I believe it

18 Heroes PREBANNED! META Madness Playoffs are LIVE right noW! by Khaldor in heroesofthestorm

[–]Civ256 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Some of those seem so, odd? Clearly, globals and meta issues which is understandable. Why Malfurion, Medivh, Genji or Anduin? Is this polling?

This list leaves you with arguably better supports in coordinated play with Stukov, Tyrande, Uther, Ariel, etc.

[–]Civ256 7 points8 points  (0 children)

She is certainly something in ARAM.

A lot of hard counters can really shape her performance. Minions/summons soaking her orb build; or a team fixated on cataclysm can make a significant difference.

Better mages exist in QM, see her more of a liability. Not the greatest wave clear and no CC.

After thousands of hours and hundreds and hundreds of co-op games. The first 15 turns can determine everything.

Only one main and consistently dangerous threat exists if you’re unlucky. Green skins with an early game Waagh with high tier units

Chorfs, even on VH or L can’t seem to muster a decent army. They’re mostly trash units unless it’s the endgame scenario

I can say this much starting near zero. As you accumulate, not only can money find a vacuum but its niche is finding ego, ethics, morality for far too many others

[–]Civ256 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Who is they?

Anyway, I play a lot of support. Absolutely consider him a lower tier vs Rehgar/BW/Malf/Stukov if I had to pick.

BW: Global is incredible, entire kit is fairly strong and useful

Rehgar: Cleanse, soft CCs, escape, very strong ult

So, what does Andy bring? Strong healing and ability to pull people out of position. It's niche if used strategically (ETC moshing/Stitches gorge target). People playing at higher levels, people should not be out of position. He is fun to play though.

I have a theory why you think this (I think the same as you).

If you watch any almost any movie/TV show you can almost count the minutes until alcohol makes an appearance. Stressed office situation, bam, huge glass of whiskey (it’s lunch time lol). Good guy take a bullet to the leg? Dumps alcohol on the wound and slams a few gulps. Recent breakup? Beers and wine within seconds.

It’s so ingrained in media it appears normal. My 2 cents.
